    Kathryn Hinds Fernquist Writing Prize

    The Kathryn Hinds Fernquist Prize

    The English Department has an annual writing contest to commemorate Kathryn Hinds Fernquist. Each year, two prizes will be awarded:

    • one for writing in any genre 
    • one for fantasy fiction

    Winners will receive a certificate and a cash prize. Additionally, winning entries (or excerpts of longer entries) will be published in The Chestatee Review.

    The contest is open to all current students from all campuses.

    Deadline: Midnight, January 21, 2022. Submissions received after this date will automatically be ineligible.

    About Kathryn Hinds Fernquist

    Kathryn Ann Fernquist Hinds was a beloved member of the UNG English Department from 2011 until her passing in 2018. Many of us knew Kathryn as an inspiring teacher, mentor, colleague and friend.

    Kathryn was a prolific writer, having published extensively in such diverse genres as poetry, historical nonfiction, fantasy fiction, and young adult fiction.
