How the Academic Interest Form Works

Congratulations on your acceptance and Welcome to the University of North Georgia!

    • The Academic Interest Form is part of the orientation reservation process. The form is accessible for students by clicking on the student Banner "Orientation Reservation" link.
    • The Academic Interest Form can only be submitted one time.
    • Changes may not be submitted later.
    • Schedule changes can be made at Orientation. In fact, we encourage all students to add at least one additional course if desired.
    • The deadline to submit the Academic Interest Form is 10 days prior to your scheduled orientation date.
    • Schedules are completed on a first-come first-served basis while also taking into account orientation sign-up dates. You will learn how to access your schedule at orientation and you will have the opportunity to make changes and add additional courses during the orientation time set aside for advising and registration. We encourage you to sign up for the first available orientation date that suits your personal schedule.
    • If you do not complete the Academic Interest Form, you will not receive a pre-made schedule and will need to build your schedule from scratch at orientation with the courses that remain open at that time.

NOTE:  The Academic Interest Form is used to collect information needed to build class schedules. A team of professional advisors will review the data and build class schedules for each new student according to the information collected.

You will NOT be selecting classes for the upcoming semester during this process. You will ONLY be providing information on personal schedule needs such as day and time preferences. This information will be used to select classes with open seats that meet your individual needs as well as your degree requirements.

Instructions to access and complete the Academic Interest Form are located below. (To learn more about the process, please read the frequently asked questions below.)

    • The Academic Interest Form will be available through the orientation reservation process when it goes live each semester.
    • Login to Banner Web
    • Your username is your UNG network ID and password.
    • Once you login, choose the “Student” tab at the top.
    • Then click on “Orientation Reservation” at the bottom of the page.
    • Complete the Orientation reservation process, which includes the Academic Interest Form, and submit it ten (10) days prior to your scheduled orientation date.
    • When will the Academic Interest Form be available?
The Academic Interest Form will be available through the orientation reservation process when it goes live for either the fall or spring semester. Please keep an eye on your UNG email for more information.
    • My friend and I submitted our Academic Interest Forms around the same time through the orientation reservation process. He has a schedule in BANNER but I do not.
Schedules are completed on a first-come first-served basis based on the earliest orientation date utilizing the information provided by an advisor from the academic major. You will be given a copy of your schedule at orientation and you will have the opportunity to make changes and add additional courses during the orientation time set aside for advising and registration.
    • Where can I find a list of the required scores for Advanced Placement (AP) credit?
You can find more information on the AP Credits webpage.
    • I am interested in the UNG Honors program at UNG. Where can I find more information?
You can find more information on the Honors Program website.
    • Can I change my major from the major I declared on my application for admission?
You have the opportunity to change your major on the Academic Interest Form. Not all majors are available on all campuses. Each request will be reviewed for approval.
    • What should I do if my Admission/Residence Status is incorrect on the form?

You should contact the Office of Admissions on the campus you are attending:

      Dahlonega - 706-864-1800

      Gainesville/Oconee/Cumming - 678-717-3641

If you are a ROTC student attending the Dahlonega Campus please contact Cadet Recruiting - 1-888-413-9366

    • When can I meet with an academic advisor for the first time?

You and your advisor will review your schedule and if changes are needed/desired, this is the time those changes can be made.

Your advisor may also reach out to you with any questions about your Academic Interest Form prior to your orientation.

    • Do I need to contact my advisor if the information in my form isn’t accurate or has changed?

No, once you submit your form via the orientation reservation process, you will not be able to submit changes. You will be given the opportunity to make changes at orientation.

Your advisor may contact you if they have any questions.

    • If I need to make changes, when can I do so?

If you need to make any change regarding your form or information contained therein, you may do so at orientation. There will be time provided for this purpose.

    • Can I make changes to my Academic Interest Form once I submit it?

No. Changes cannot be made once you submit your Academic Interest Form.

    • How many times may I submit my Academic Interest Form?

You may only submit the Academic Interest Form form one time.

    • Can I request classes at certain times?

No, due to the nature of building schedules, it is impossible to guarantee classes at a certain time. On the Academic Interest Form, there is a place to make notes if you need to request classes in a general time frame due to relevant reasons such as work, child care needs, etc.

    • What if I do not attend orientation?

Those registered for orientation that miss their orientation date will have their schedules dropped if they do not notify OTP within 24 hours of the orientation date. Your next opportunity to register for classes will be during the add/drop period at the beginning of the semester.  If you re-register for an orientation session, you will receive a new schedule prior to that orientation date with the classes still available at that time assuming you are not manually added to a session immediately prior to a session or as a walk-in.

    • Who is eligible to participate in the scheduling process?

All freshmen and transfer students starting in fall or spring semester will be able to complete the Academic Interest Form.

Students starting in the summer semester are not eligible for advanced scheduling.

All Learning Support students will be able to participate in the process after completing modules included on the Academic Interest Form.

    • What happens if I complete the Academic Interest Form but do not complete the orientation program?
In accordance with the Advance Schedule Drop policy, you will be removed from your classes.
    • Who can I contact for further assistance about the Academic Interest Form?

You may contact Academic Advising at advising-dah@ung.edu or phone at 706-864-1402.
