    Academics at Summer Honors

We provide collegiate level academics focused on authentic undergraduate research experiences that will help prepare you for college. Our program works with outstanding University of North Georgia (UNG) faculty members to provide challenging coursework that is accessible to high school students but which does not overlap content that would be learned in high school.

Our research focus is an added-value feature that will assist you in maximizing the benefits of your undergraduate education. Some topics in the past include:

    • Jungian Archetypal Analysis
    • Neuroscience
    • Marine Biology
    • Game Theory
    • Class Structure in the US and the Social Register
    • Criminal Justice and the Death Penalty
    • Physics of Rock Climbing
    • Astronomy
    • Cross-cultural Etiquette

    College Writing program

Have you ever wondered if your writing skills are already at a college level? Our College Writing program offers instruction in writing collegiate essays. Two essays are graded by college faculty as though the students are enrolled in an Honors Composition 101 course in college. Our College Writing instructors will give detailed feedback on how you can improve and prepare yourself for the next step in your education.

The essay topics include leadership themes from the novel Ender's Game and leadership experiences at Summer Honors. Leaders communicate effectively. The College Writing program provides excellent synergy between the Summer Honors academic experience and our adventure-learning leadership program.

    Academic Achievements

Academic progress is tracked through individual and team Quiz Bowls and two essay contests. Awards are presented at the Awards Night Banquet. Each year, the Summer Honors Most Outstanding Student earns a $2,500 scholarship to attend UNG and automatic enrollment in the UNG Honors Program.

The Most Outstanding Student award requires a student to perform at or near the top in multiple Academic awards categories as well as multiple Leadership awards categories.
