5.5 Images

To keep the website images consistent, we recommend using only the two sizes provided below. Using images that are too small or too large can cause undesirable results with web pages.

Image Specifications

  • File types for photos should be .jpg or .png
  • Resolution should be 72 dpi (dots per inch)
  • Maximum files size for all images is 1 MB
  • For any image of a person, obtain a model release form.

File Naming

  • Don't use the file name that a digital camera automatically generates
  • Don't use spaces in the file name, use a "-" hyphen
  • Don't use special characters, Cascade won't upload the file
  • For an image of a person, use their name (jane-doe.jpg)
  • For other images use short descriptive names (three-penguins.png)
  • Search engines look at image file names too, so name your files appropriately

Large Impact / Header Images

Example of an image that is 971 x 370

Images to be used in the impact image/header area should be 971 x 370. Because the flex design is responsive, the images will resize to fit the device being used. If you add images that are not this size, the results will not be attractive on all devices. Learn more about impact image guidelines

Content Images

Example of an image that is 675 x 450

All images used in the body content (not the page header) should be 675 x 450.  This includes individual images as well as those used in slideshows in body content. Because the flex design is responsive, the images will resize to fit the device being used. The largest that the image will need to be displayed is 675 x 450.
