Gainesville Recreational Center

• Patrons are only allowed in the facility during normal operating hours.
• All patrons must swipe their University of North Georgia ID card at the gate upon entering the facility. Only valid patrons with valid ID Cards are allowed in the Rec Center. 
• Exceptions can be made for patrons who possess an active North Georgia ID but forget or lose their card, current active students that have not paid the Rec Center fee, and Ranger Camp employees. These people may purchase an Access Pass for $5 to use the facility for a single day. Access Passes cannot be used to gain access to Group Ex classes, Intramural Sport or Sport Club activities, or the Climbing Wall.
• Individuals under the age of 15 are not permitted in the Rec Center. Individuals under the age of 18 must be directly supervised by their parent or guardian.
• Rec Center staff shall monitor overall facility conduct, equipment, sound system, televisions, and thermostat.
• All bags and personal items must be kept in designated areas and may not be carried around the facility. Neither the Department of Recreational Sports nor the staff are responsible for lost or stolen items. Patrons should report missing items to the Facility Staff as soon as the items are noticed missing.
• Lockers are available to rent per semester. Day-use lockers are also available for use, but contents and locks must be removed on a daily basis. Locks will be cut and lockers will be cleared at the end of each day.
• No food or drinks are permitted in the Rec Center. The only exception is water or sports drinks in a sealed container or bottle. Water fountains and drink machines are available in the facility.
• Spectator passes can be requested through the Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs program.
• Bikes, roller-skates, and roller-blades are prohibited. Skateboards must be stored in the designated area.
• Animals are not permitted, with the exception of trained service animals.
• No one may take pictures or video inside the Rec Center without permission from the Recreational Sports Office.
• Photography and Videography in locker rooms is strictly prohibited.
• Personal Training in the Rec Center can only occur through Recreational Sports Trainers. Any other personal training, whether for pay or not, is strictly prohibited due to safety concerns and to ensure that no state facilities are used to advance a private enterprise.
• If equipment or the facility is lost or damaged, the patron will be responsible for the cost of the repair.
• Patrons must demonstrate courtesy towards others in the facility at all times. To ensure an inclusive environment:
  • Consistent or excessive yelling/grunting/noise is prohibited. Rec Center staff reserves the right to determine if any noise level is unacceptable.
  • Use of headphones is required when using a personal listening device.
  • Respect for equipment, facilities, and staff must be demonstrated at all times. The Rec Center is a place for everyone to feel welcome.
• A closing announcement will be made approximately 15 minutes prior to closing. All participants are expected to finish their activity, re-rack all weights, return checked out equipment, and exit the Rec Center by closing time.
• Athletic tops and athletic bottoms must be worn at all times.
• Closed-toed non-marking athletic shoes must be worn at all times and when using any fitness equipment.
• Per Corps requirements, OCP (Operational Camouflage Pattern) and dress uniforms in the workout and gymnasium are prohibited.
• Apparel changes are restricted to locker rooms or gender neutral facilities.
• Clothing that in any way damages equipment, upholstery, or flooring are prohibited.
• The following is a list of attire strictly prohibited due to safety concerns:
  • Open-toed shoes
  • Toe shoes/five-finger shoes, boat shoes, crocs, canvas, and "Toms" type shoes 
  • Flip flops
  • Slippers
  • Dress shoes 
  • Boots
  • Khaki material pants
  • Swim trunks/board shorts
  • Jeans
  • Pants with zippers
  • Pants with pockets/cargo pants
  • Pants with rivets 
• The use of alcohol, illegal recreational drugs or any form of tobacco while utilizing Recreational Sports facilities is strictly prohibited.

Guest passes may be purchased for $5 at the front desk of the Fitness Center upon entry. All guests must be accompanied by a current Fitness Center member and a waiver must be completed in order to gain entry.

Faculty and staff memberships are available for purchase for access to both the Gainesville and Dahlonega recreation centers. Memberships for full-time, benefited faculty/staff and retirees are $150 a year; $12.50 a month for 12 month employees and $15.00 a month for 10 month employees. Memberships can be paid using payroll deduction or can be paid month-to-month.

Faculty and staff eligible dependents may also have a membership through the faculty and staff membership if they fall under the below criteria:

• Are only eligible on the employee membership.
• Include spouse and children up to age 26.
• Must be 15 year of age to enter the Recreation Center. 
• Under the age of 18 must be accompanied by the employee member.
• Must have a UNG ID (available at card services).

Part-time and/or non-benefited faculty/staff and UNG Alumni may purchase memberships through Professional and Continuing Education.

• It is recommended that all patrons bring a clean towel to wipe down equipment after each use. Gym wipes are provided for patrons to wipe down equipment after use.
• There is a 30 minute limit on cardio equipment if people are waiting.
• Bars, weights, and dumbbells must be returned to the proper plate holders or rack after each use.
• Slamming or dropping dumbbells or weight stacks is strictly prohibited. Always maintain control while exercising.
• Olympic lifts are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, cleans and snatches.
• No equipment shall leave the facility unless prior approval has been obtained by the Recreational Sports Office.
• Spotters must be utilized, when necessary, on all free weight equipment. Facility staff is able to spot when needed.
• Weight Clips are required on all barbells with plated weights, at all times.
• Immediately report any injury or equipment irregularity to the Facility Staff.

Recreational Sports Staff and internal or external parties or groups utilizing Recreational Sports facilities are responsible for the strict enforcement of all rules and regulations. Recreational Sports has the right to modify these rules based on circumstance. Failure to comply will result in ejection from the facility.

• Parents are responsible for their children in the facility.
• Children over four (4) years of age are not permitted in the locker room of the opposite sex and are only allowed in the locker room under the supervision of the same sex parent or guardian.
• Recreational Sports Staff may assist in checking availability of the locker rooms should other accommodations need to be made.
• In some recreation facilities, family changing rooms are available. Please see Recreational Sports Staff for availability of these rooms. Should Recreational Sports Staff not be available, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to make arrangements for their child.
