In place of this month's meeting, AFCEA will host 1LT Terrence Dorsey, a University of North Georgia graduate and National Guard Military Intelligence officer. Recently returning from deployment, 1LT Dorsey will provide firsthand insight into his path from UNG to commissioning, his experiences serving in the National Guard, and what life looks like as a Guard officer in the Military Intelligence field. He will also discuss how Guard service integrates with civilian careers, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and lessons learned while working in the intelligence profession after graduation.

Carl McColman, a scholar of contemplative prayer and Christian mysticism, will share ancient methods of reading the Bible prayerfully. This event is open invitation to all students, faculty, and community. This event includes his talk, Q&A time, and a meal.

Miracle UNG is a student-led nonprofit that fundraises for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. We host once-a-month club meetings where we come together and discuss different topics. We review what MiracleUNG is, talk about events, and learn about a Children's family. Typically, we end it with an activity like making beads of courage. The exec team will meet from 6:00 to 6:30pm, and the club meeting will start at 6:30pm.

C.R.A.S.E. stands for Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events, a training program that provides guidance and strategies for civilians to survive an active shooter event. The training is based on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy, which focuses on empowering individuals with actionable steps to take in a critical situation before law enforcement arrives. Topics covered include human stress response, the history of active shooter events.

The American Heart Association's (AHA) Heartsaver® CPR AED course trains people with little to no medical training to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) on adults, children, and infants. The course teaches key skills for sudden cardiac emergencies, including recognizing the need for CPR, administering high-quality chest compressions and breaths, and using an AED correctly to deliver an electrical shock if needed.

The cost for the certification card is $25.00. This must be paid at the Business Office on the Dahlonega Campus prior to the class. Please note that they only accept cash or check.

"Stop the Bleed" is a national campaign and training program that teaches the public how to provide immediate bleeding control until professional medical help arrives. It aims to save lives by empowering bystanders to use techniques like direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquets to stop severe bleeding from traumatic injuries in everyday emergencies, man-made disasters, or natural disasters.

Basic Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The Basic R.A.D. class is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction, risk avoidance, and progresses on to the basics of hands-on defense training. The hands-on portion of the class is progressive in nature however participants learn and implement techniques at their own comfort level. R.A.D. is not a martial arts program.  It is designed to help women of all ages and fitness levels avoid and escape harmful situations by teaching a strong foundation of awareness, risk reduction and avoidance strategies, which R.A.D. believes is 90 percent of self-defense training. This course is a combination of both educational and physical learning components. 
 
 R.A.D. is the only existing self-defense program with a free lifetime return and practice policy, honored worldwide.  Our instructors are trained and nationally certified by R.A.D. Systems. 
  
This course if FREE for all UNG community members.

The class is held over the course of four sessions. These sessions are progressive in nature and build upon techniques learned during the previous classes; to participate in simulation on the fourth day you must attend the first three days. Participation in the fourth day is not mandatory.

An exhibition celebrating Bob Owens, North Georgia College's influential art professor and department founder. Archival sketchbooks, prints, drawings, pottery, and ceramic sculptures not previously shown will be on display, as well as first-hand accounts of Owens' impact as an art educator. Alumni impacted by Owens' mentorship will be exhibited on the first floor.

During the reception, a plaque will be unveiled and dedicated to Bob Owens.

Class cost: $100 per student

Scientists have written that cordage (string) and glue were not merely for making the lives of traditional cultures easier; they literally held their world together.

In this cordage and pitch glue workshop students will learn two important skills: how to process plant fibers to create cordage, and how to combine natural elements to create glue.

The Cordage and Glue workshop on March 28, 11-4 is broken into two parts:
Part I is cordage, in which students first learn how to refine the leaves and stalks from various plant species in order to expose the fibers. Next, students will be taught the reverse-twist method of creating actual cordage. Each student will take home the cordage strands they create, as well as extra material to process and twist on their own.

Part II is making pine-pitch glue, where students are provided three ingredients: charcoal, dried plant matter and pine sap. First, a minimal amount of processing will be done to break down and purify the ingredients. Then, students will melt the sap over a heat source and gradually add the other two elements. When the correct consistency is achieved, students will learn how to attach the liquified glue to the end of a small piece of wood for storage.

Each student will take home several of these 'pitch sticks'. The workshop will culminate in students using their glue and cordage to haft a projectile point onto a river cane handle. This workshop is suitable for ages thirteen and up; students under eighteen must have an accompanying adult present at all times. No prior knowledge of or experience with cordage or glue is necessary.

Join the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi for a pageant between the on-campus sororities for their chance to win a spot as our 2026 Rose Queen! Each of the sororities will vote on one sister to represent them in the pageant. The pageant will consist of two phases: An introduction (formal) and a talent show. In the first phase contestants will be in formal wear and present themselves on stage with an introduction and a speech on what their chosen philanthropy means to them. In the second round, contestants will show off any talent of their choice. Following the conclusion of the two phases the judges will come to a decision on who they believe should be our Rose Queen!

Tickets will be $3 before the day of the contest and $5 at the door!

Basic Life Support (BLS) is a set of emergency medical procedures that sustain life until professional help arrives, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). It is provided by first responders, healthcare providers, or trained bystanders for emergencies like cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or obstructed airways. The goal is to maintain blood circulation and oxygen flow to the brain and other organs to prevent damage and improve the chance of survival.

The cost for the certification card is $10.00. This must be paid at the Business Office on the Gainesville Campus prior to the class. Please note that they only accept cash or check.

We hold this event every year, and there's usually a great turnout.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is a set of emergency medical procedures that sustain life until professional help arrives, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). It is provided by first responders, healthcare providers, or trained bystanders for emergencies like cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or obstructed airways. The goal is to maintain blood circulation and oxygen flow to the brain and other organs to prevent damage and improve the chance of survival.

The cost for the certification card is $10.00. This must be paid at the Business Office on the Dahlonega Campus prior to the class. Please note that they only accept cash or check.

This semester we will be exploring what to consider in Making Decisions (both big and small) through a Christian, theological lens. We will eat and hang out before we begin discussion at 12:30 pm. No prep is needed and bring your lunch with you to eat while we are lead through this topic by our campus minister Trey Martin, Ph.D.

Topics include her process as a curator from: selection of an artist, process of design, process of production and how she and her team promotes to garner the 'next mural'.

MiracleUNG's last and biggest event of the year. Typically it is an all day event from 10 am to 5 pm. This event is filled with fundraising, line dancing, games, food, and more! We have the opportunity to hear families from CHOA stories and understand why our organization is so important. At the end of the event, we reveal the grand total we raised the entire year. It's is an incredible way to end the year.

A two million year-old habit is hard to break! Scientists estimate this is how long ago the first pieces of stone were crafted into tools. Many people are familiar with stone artifacts such as arrowheads created by traditional cultures in North America and around the world.

In this flintknapping workshop taught by Andrew Lee, students will learn how to create stone projectile points.

The Flintknapping Workshop consists of four hours of instruction total. Each student will be given a large piece of stone and, using a smooth cobble as a hammerstone, shown how to remove a "flake", or small piece. Next, they will be given a pressure flaker tool and instructed how to thin and shape their flakes into a finished arrowhead. Each student will have the opportunity to create several projectile points, and they will take home their finished pieces and the pressure flaker, as well as several additional flakes to complete on their own. Safety equipment such as gloves and eye protection will be provided. This class is suitable for ages thirteen and up; students under eighteen must have an accompanying adult present at all times. No prior knowledge of or experience with flintknapping is necessary.

Celebrate Earth Day by joining the Earth Day Art Show! Students, faculty, and staff from all campuses are invited to submit 2-dimensional works of art that celebrate, explore, or reflect on the natural world to this event. These works will be displayed from April 3 through May 1 in the Gainesville Student Center adjacent to the main Earth Day event celebrated in the Gainesville quad and volley ball courts.

Artwork submissions must be completed by March 31 and artworks dropped off on Gainesville campus April 1 - 2. The artworks can be picked up in the student center May 1. Submit your artwork here!

Join a guided tour led by the seven undergraduate student researchers* who investigated works of Bob Owens for this momentous exhibition, as they illuminate the significance of key works in the show.

As an integral part of the tour, alumni and former students of Bob Owens who are participating in the exhibition will be invited to discuss their works on view and the impact made by their teacher.

At the conclusion of the tour, the public is invited to enjoy refreshments at the Hoag Student Center and attend the Reception for the Hal B. Rhodes III Juried Exhibition.

Bob Owens: A Legacy Beyond Measure gathers over forty works by Bob Owens, a ceramic artist and master potter who deeply impacted art and art education in the North Georgia region between the 1960s and the 2000s, and whose influence continues to be felt today. The exhibition features works generously donated to UNG by the artists' son, Ben Owens, as well as works on loan from the private collections of Thomas and Tommye Scanlin and of Kathleen Gillespie Jackson. The selection was curated by Dr. Ana Pozzi Harris, with invaluable guidance from Alex Kraft and Kathleen Gillespie Jackson.

The Department of Visual Arts proudly invites you to its annual signature event: the Reception and Awards ceremony for the Hal B. Rhodes III Juried Student Exhibition and for Visual Arts Scholarships. Visit an outstanding art exhibition, enjoy good company and refreshments, and attend two exciting award ceremonies, where we celebrate our donors and student awardees.

For the Hal B. Rhodes III Juried Student Exhibition, monetary awards will be presented for Best in Show, First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, Fourth Prize, and Honorable Mention, as well as the Department Head Award, the Tommye Scanlin Award of Merit, and the Youngblood-Khan Social Justice Award.

Scholarship awardees will be called to the stage to receive the Bob Owens Scholarship, the Scanlin Awards, the Tommye McClure Scanlin Endowed Scholarship, the Chris Gore Scholarship, the Patsy M. Street Memorial Scholarship, the Visual Arts Scholarship, the Forsyth County Arts Alliance Scholarship, the Roy C. Moore Art Scholarship, and the Gloria Shott Fine Arts Scholarship. For 2026, two new scholarships will be awarded: the Judy Bynum George Art of Living Inc. Scholarship and the Reagan Bowman Endowed Scholarship.

The donors or their representatives are invited to participate in the ceremony and meet the awarded students at this joyous occasion.
