    Visual Arts (B.F.A.)

    The Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in visual arts is a professional degree with 69 credit hours in upper level studio and art courses. You will select one area of focus from the following: Digital Arts, Drawing & Painting, Graphic Design, Photography, Printmaking & Paper Arts, and Sculpture & Ceramics.

    Advanced courses will enable you to develop high proficiency in a focus area. You will culminate your degree with a Senior Capstone Exhibition. This degree prepares you for graduate school admission or for positions within a creative industry that demands advanced artistic expertise.

    The Visual Arts (B.F.A.) accepts qualified students and requires a special application evaluated by the Department of Visual Arts

    Since the Visual Arts (B.F.A.) requires coursework in a highly concentrated area of focus, neither minors nor elective courses outside the Department of Visual Arts are available to Visual Arts (B.F.A.) students.

    About the Senior Capstone Exhibition

    The Senior Capstone Exhibition is a semester-long exhibition project developed by students in the Visual Arts (B.F.A.) program, with guidance from a focus area academic advisor. You will create a proposal that showcases your expertise, and realize the project through your last semester.

    This process culminates with the installation of an individual exhibition and the production of a portfolio, preparing you for professional employment or graduate school

      Overview

      • Admission - by B.F.A. program application
        • You are required to pass the Foundations Portfolio Review and have completed or be enrolled in the required courses. Students may pass Foundations Portfolio Review and apply to the B.F.A. in the same semester.
      • Senior Capstone Exhibition required - focus on building portfolio for professional employment and graduate school
      • 69 credit hours in intermediate and advanced studio and art history courses with one area of focus
      • Internship encouraged
      • No minor allowed – No elective courses outside Visual Arts

      Exploratory program in a major of art with a concentration or a major of studio art.

        • Variety of studio art media - drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, printmaking, paper arts, photography, graphic design, digital media, and art history

       Overview

      • Admission – declared with admission into bachelor programs
      • B.A. Group Exhibition
      • 48 credits in intermediate and advanced studio art and art history courses with concentration in Graphic Design
      • Internship required except for the Studio Art (B.A.)
      • Minors/Electives
        • Studio Art (B.A.)
          • Free elective courses or any minors outside of the Department of Visual Arts (Art History Minor allowed)
        • Art Majors (B.A.) with Graphic Design or Digital Arts concentration
          • 15 hours - Non-art Minor or non-art electives (Art History Minor allowed)
      • 2000-level or higher Modern Language course required

    Submission Deadlines

    • Fall semester – October 31 at 11:59 p.m.
    • Spring semester – March 31 at 11:59 p.m.
