Theatre

A Unique Collaboration

The Department of Theatre at the University of North Georgia (UNG) is part of The Gainesville Theatre Alliance (GTA). GTA is a unique collaboration between a public college and a private university, theatre professionals and the northeast Georgia community. This extraordinary alliance between UNG and Brenau University, which pools faculty talent and three state-of-the-art performance spaces, focuses on individualized training while emphasizing strong ensemble and support. GTA combines challenging course work (ACE Award for Academic Excellence) with a quality production program (ACTF National Finalist).

The quality of production activity at GTA is far above that found at most colleges and universities at the undergraduate level. In essence, GTA is a professional theatre attached to a college theatre program. This is a model found, almost exclusively, in highly competitive conservatory programs. Theatre majors from both institutions take classes together, on both campuses, as well as work together on all production projects.

Find out about the training program, its history, how to get tickets, and more by visiting the GTA Site

Behind the Scenes

home-behind-the-scenes-675-450.jpgCheck out this visual montage of the 2018-2019 GTA season of theatre students in various stages of supporting each other’s work while creating the technical and performance elements of our record-breaking productions.

Classes are taught by both our Resident Faculty and by our exciting roster of Professional Guest Artists. At GTA, we believe that the strongest theatre artist is one who has a rich, liberal arts education and a working knowledge of all aspects of theatre production and theory.
