Political Science Pathway (A.A.)

If you are interested in how the government works and think you want to dedicate your career toward the development and function of governments, getting an associate's degree in political science would be a great first step. The degree provides students with a basic introduction to the field of political science.

After completing this degree you may wish to go on to our bachelor degree programs in which you would go into greater depth on the subject.

Degree Requirements
  • This associate degree is available on the UNG-Gainesville Campus and is also offered online.
  • The associate degree requires completion of Areas A-E of the Core Curriculum and Area F as described below.
  • The online associate degree is designed to be completed using UNG online courses and eCore. Not all courses are offered each semester. Please contact Maria Albo ( with questions relating to course availability and rotation.

3 hours - choose one course from the following list:

  • CRJU 1100 Introduction to Criminal Justice
  • BUSA 2810 Legal Environment of Business
  • ECON 2105 Principles of Macroeconomics
  • JOUR 1010 News Writing and Reporting

3 hours - choose one course from the following list:

  • COMM 1110 Public Speaking
  • ENGL/GNST/HIST 2140 Gender & Literature/Intro to Gender Studies/Gender & Sexuality in History
  • PHIL 2200 Ethics from a Global Perspective
  • POLS 2301 Introduction to Comparative Politics
  • POLS 2601 Introduction to Social Science Research Methods

3 hours - choose one course from the following list:

  • HIST 2xxx Any 2000 level History course
  • PHIL 2500 Logic
  • POLS 2315 Introduction to Western Political Thought
  • SOCI 1xxx Any 1000 level Sociology course
