    Overview

    Ms. Hernandez loves linguistics and languages in general. She enjoys spending time paying attention to the way people speak and thinking about why people say the things that they do as well as what influences language change. She also enjoys spending time with her dog, who does not speak at all.

    Research/Special Interests

    Ms. Hernandez researches language contact, specifically focusing on Spanish and English. Her graduate research is conducted, primarily, on the language of blogs from Puerto Rico and Spain. The bulk of her work is done on code-switching and she has developed a group of socio-pragmatic categories for the code-switches in her corpora.

    Work Experience

    Ms. Hernandez has taught in several different educational settings, including a high school, a community college, a small private college, and a large research university. She began her teaching career as a high school teacher, but quickly returned to school to further her education. She taught at the University of Georgia for seven years during graduate school. During this time she also taught evening classes for Piedmont College and Gainesville State College. Currently she continues to teach for the University of North Georgia.
