    Concerto/Aria Competition

Every year, UNG students are invited to compete for the opportunity to perform as a soloist with one of our major instrumental ensembles (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Sinfonietta, or Jazz Band). The competition takes place in early November, and the winning performer is scheduled for a concert in the spring semester. The three judges are hired from outside of UNG to ensure impartiality.

    Eligibility

    • All current UNG students (excepting those who won the competition in the previous year) are eligible to compete. Competitors are still eligible if they expect to graduate before the concert.
    • A student may compete in the same year on two unrelated instruments (e.g. trumpet and voice), but not on two related instruments (e.g. oboe and English horn).

    Guidelines

    • Competitors may only perform literature that has been approved by the director of the ensemble with whom they hope to appear. The director must sign the application to indicate consent.
    • Competitors must have the permission of their applied instructor. The instructor must sign the application to indicate consent.
    • Competitors must provide an accompanist for the adjudication.
    • Competitors must provide three copies of their music for the jury.

    Registration

Complete the Concert/Aria Competition form. The forms are also available from your department administrator early in the fall semester It will be due to your administrator two weeks before the competition, at which point specific times will be assigned.
