A native of Binghamton, NY, D. Phillip Truex is a versatile performer and teacher. Currently residing in Decatur, he holds dual bachelors degrees from Ithaca College (Music Performance and Education), and a M.M. from the University of Northern Colorado. While completing his studies in performance and education, he has had the pleasure of studying with Nat Wickham, Mark Babbitt, Harold Reynods, and Jeffrey Gray. With over 12 years of teaching experience, Phil maintains a small studio teaching low brass students of all ages and abilities, while playing in the Atlanta area.

As a performer, Phil has played with The Ludwig Symphony, Il Brasso Magnifico, the Colorado Jazz Orchestra, 9th and Lincoln Jazz Orchestra, the Greeley Chorale, and Larmier Chorale, and appears on recordings for the UNC Jazz Press. He has performed at venues including the Greeley Jazz Festival, and the Telluride Jazz Celebration, while working with artists such as the New York Voices, Patti Austin, Jeff Coffin, Donny McCaslin, Benny Green, Jeff Hamilton, Terell Stafford, Jeff Clayton, and many others.

Phil is always looking to share his knowledge with students that have a love for music, be it with professional goals for the orchestral or studio style of playing, or just to learn and polish a passion for music that can last a lifetime. He offers lessons in low brass (Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, & Tuba) from his home studio, and as a teaching artist at Ken Stanton music. Take your lessons with an experienced and professionally trained musician! Resume and references available upon request.
