Ghazal Awarded Barry Friedman Scholarship

The Dr. Barry Friedman Scholarship in Political Science & International Affairs for the 2026-2027 Academic Year has been awarded to Fadi Ghazal who is pursuing a degree in Political Science on UNG’s Gainesville campus. Ghazal continues in the footsteps of the scholarship’s three past esteemed recipients: Victoria Landa IA’24, Fatima Santillan PS/pre-Law ‘25, and Jordan Barrocas SSST ‘26.
Dr. Raluca Viman-Miller shared how Ghazal “has impressed the selection committee with his commitment to his education, to our department and the drive to succeed in the future”.
In light of this opportunity, Ghazal remarks how vital the PSIA department has been to help him succeed and thrive. He informs how “Professors like Dr. Chand, Dr. Wilson, and Dr. Wilk have motivated me and given me insight into the Political Science field. They have been incredibly supportive.”
Ghazal plans on using the scholarship “to assist with fees, books, and costs associated with tuition” so that he can continue to focus on his studies and future ambitions post-graduation in 2027. Looking toward the future, he shares: “my goal right now is Law School, I'm pretty set on trying to get into one. My professors have been great at sending me resources and properly educating me on Law School”.
The $1,000 grant is merely one way the PSIA Department aims to care for its students who work and study diligently, making their education more affordable. The Department is thrilled to provide this award to Fadi Ghazal, the fourth recipient of the scholarship, and extends its sincere thanks to all those who have contributed thus far to the scholarship fund.
