Remote Work Toolbox for Faculty and Staff
Duo Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a Must
UNG 2FA setup is required in order to be able to access most of the features available for remote work. You are encouraged to set up Duo 2FA on more than one phone in case you don't have your mobile phone with you or are not at your office phone.
You can use the Manage Devices feature to add, remove, or change the devices available for 2FA. When logging in, you can choose the line where Duo will send the authentication request, be it smart phone app, SMS text message, or phone call depending on which method you choose.
Prior to working from home, review:
Access your Desktop and Files
Remote Desktop
To access your UNG office Windows-based computer, configure a laptop for remote access. This service is not available for accessing UNG Mac OS-based desktops.
Remotely Access your Office Computer
VLAB
UNG's Virtual Lab ("VLAB") environment provides a virtual computing setup complete with access to UNG resources, including the U-drive / P-drive.
Connect Directly to VLAB
Instructions on Connecting to Virtual Lab (VLAB)
When connected to VLAB, save your files to your P: drive, not your desktop.
Accessing Office 365
From office.ung.edu you may access your Outlook e-mail and calendar, Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams and more. On the login page, enter your UNG credentials (Example: helpdesk@ung.edu) and your UNG password.
Mailbox.ung.edu opens directly to your Outlook e-mail and calendar. Other Office features are also available once you log in.
How Can I Save Files Remotely?
There are two options for saving files while working remotely.
- You can also save files to the cloud-based OneDrive application offered through the Microsoft suite. Since the files are stored in the cloud they can be accessed from any device at any time. OneDrive can even be used to upload docs from within eLearning.
- Use VLAB to save files to the P Drive, or U Drive. Saving files to your personal drive (P:) or the U drive will ensure that your files will be waiting for you on your desktop computer at work when you need them.
VPN, Remote Desktop and VLAB Reminder

- IT recommends using Microsoft Teams or Zoom to conduct virtual meetings. Practice common courtesy by muting your microphone if you are not speaking. Refer to the UNG Web-Conferencing and Virtual Events Platforms article for more information and resources.

Zoom is another application that allows you to schedule a meeting and provide a link to your attendees, including external participants as guests.
