How do I change my password?
The UNG Password Portal is used to change and reset account passwords. This will be used in the event you lose or forget your password, as well as if your account password expires. The Change/Expired Password option allows you to simply change your account password, which will re-activate an expired account. The Forgot Password link will allow you to answer your security questions in the event that you have forgotten the account password. In order to use the Forgot Password option, enrollment in the Password Management services is required. In order to enroll in Password Management, you will use the Enroll in Password Management option from the Password Portal.
How do I activate my UNG account?
In order to activate your UNG Network ID, you must first change the default password from the one provided by Information Technology. To assist you with this process, please visit our Account Activation Portal.
What services does the UNG IT Service Desk provide?
The IT Service Desk provides professional computer diagnostic and repair services to all students as part of your Student Technology Fee and at no additional cost. We are equipped to service both Windows and Macintosh computers.
We offer installation of many popular software solutions, including Microsoft Office and ESET NOD32 Antivirus. Alternatively, the software can be installed on your own through our Software Portal. Other software applications can be installed upon request, if licenses are provided.
Though hardware is not covered by the Student Technology Fee, we are able to install most hardware components. Should it be hardware failure or simply an upgrade, if you provide the component to us we are able to professionally install the component.
The I.T. Service Desk provides both software and hardware diagnostics. Using state of the art tools, we are able to accurately diagnose what is causing your computer to malfunction, and repair it accordingly. In the case of hardware failure, we will provide a quote for a replacement part and install the replacement for you. Software Diagnostics include malware removal, troubleshooting, and Operating System repairs.
Should I buy a Windows or Macintosh computer?
The University of North Georgia fully supports both Windows and Macintosh computers on campus. Any computers that work in a home environment will work properly at the University of North Georgia. Some software on campus is specific to Windows machines, however, Macintosh computers may be configured with BootCamp to allow compatibility with this software.
At this time, only Windows and Macintosh computers are supported for the use of Microsoft Office products. Computers such as Google Chromebooks currently do not have access to install Microsoft Office products, however, you may use the Virtual Labs in order to access Microsoft Office products from any computer with an Internet browser. Should I buy Microsoft Office?
No, with your Student Technology Fee, each student is eligible for up to 5 licenses for personal computers. For information on installing Microsoft Office products, please visit our Software Portal or one of the Service Desk locations.
Microsoft Office includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Skype for Business (Lync), OneNote*, and Access**.
*OneNote is available for Macintosh from the Apple App Store. ** Access is currently only available on PCs.
You are able to install Office suite on up to five personally-owned PCs and Macs, five tablet devices, and five mobile phones.
Should I buy antivirus software?
It is suggested that all students have antivirus software installed on their personal computers. Included with your Student Technology Fee is a license to an industry leading antivirus solution, ESET NOD32. Learn more about ESET NOD32 Antivirus. For information on installing ESET NOD32, please visit our Software Portal or one of the Service Desk locations.
Important Note: If you plan on living in the Residence Halls, it is required for Windows computers to be running an up-to-date antivirus software.
What happens to my account after I graduate or leave UNG?
After 3 consecutive terms of non-enrollment, UNG student accounts are disabled.
It is critical to forward any important emails to a personal email account before UNG accounts are disabled.
All UNG services including Office 365 are accessible before accounts are deactivated.
Banner student accounts remain accessible indefinitely so students may access their records or order transcripts, etc. by use of their 900* student number. Users will need to call the service desk at 706-864-1922 to receive a new password once their account is disabled.
Are there student discounts available?
How many pages can I print per semester?
Duplex printing (2 sided copies) will count as 2 pages, therefore students are charged $0.04 for 2 sided print jobs.
How do I add funds to my print account?
Beyond the initial allocation of $10 all students are able to add funds to their print account via the Card Services website. Funds added this way do carry over each semester, these additional funds you add yourself are not removed at the end of each semester like the initial print allocation amount.
