    IT Services

    • What services does Information Technology provide?

      The UNG Division of Information Technology provides secure, effective and highly available technology solutions in alignment with the University of North Georgia (UNG) and University System of Georgia (USG) strategic plans while delivering excellence in customer service. In support of this mission, we will:

      • Partner with the University community to understand and enable the information technology needs of faculty, staff, and students.
      • Provide leadership and planning for the secure, effective, and strategic use of emerging technologies.
      • Demonstrate technical and operational excellence, and efficiency through a commitment to professionalism and continuous improvement while adhering to the policies, standards, procedures and guidelines of UNG and the USG.

    My UNG Account

    • How do I change my password?
      The UNG password page is used to provide details to change and reset account passwords. This will be used in the event you lose or forget your password, as well as if your account password expires. The Expired or Forgotten Password option allows you to choose a method of password reset notification. You must be enrolled to take advantage of this feature. If you have not enrolled in password management, choose the Enroll in Password Management link. To update your method of notification, choose Update Password Management Settings.
    • How do I activate my UNG account?

      In order to activate your UNG Network ID, you must first change the default password from the one provided by Information Technology. To assist you with this process, please visit our Account Activation Portal.

    • What happens to my account after I graduate or leave UNG?

      After 3 consecutive terms of non-enrollment, UNG student accounts are disabled.

      It is critical to forward any important emails to a personal email account before UNG accounts are disabled.

      All UNG services including Office 365 are accessible before accounts are deactivated.

      Former students who are seeking access to their grades or records should request a transcript. 

    Wi-Fi and Synching E-mail

    • How do I connect to the UNG Wi-Fi?

      To connect to the UNG Wi-Fi, navigate to your device network settings. Select the UNG network and then enter your UNG username and password. To assist you with this process, please visit these walkthrough guides for more in depth instructions.

    • How do I sync my UNG email to my mobile device?

      To add your UNG email to your mobile device, navigate to your Settings app. Locate the ‘Add Account’ option (This varies depending on device). Select ‘Exchange’ or ‘Corporate’ account.     Computers & Software

    • Is personal computer support available?
      Yes, the UNG IT Help Desk offers students, faculty, and staff in-person technical assistance. On-site technicians can assist with issues regarding users’ accounts, devices, software installation, data transfers, and more. In-depth hardware or software troubleshooting issues may require a longer wait and the device will be checked in for further investigation.  In addition, each IT Help Desk locations facilitates a loaner laptop program, where we can issue a laptop for a limited amount of time.     • What Specs Should My Computer Meet?

      UNG Recommended Computer Specifications:

      • CPU: Current generation Intel Core i5 or AMD 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) or faster x64-bit processor
      • Memory: 8-16 GB RAM
      • Hard Disk: 256 GB Solid State Drive or higher
      • Display: Personal Preference (minimum resolution 1024x768)
      • Graphics: DirectX10 Graphics Card or Higher
      • Operating: System Windows 10/MacOS Sierra
      • Browser: The current version of Chrome or Firefox
      • Webcam

      UNG Minimum Computer Requirements:

      • CPU: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster x86-bit or x64-bit processor
      • Memory: 2 GB RAM
      • Hard Disk: 80 GB Hard Drive 
      • Display: 1024 x 768 screen resolution
      • Graphics: DirectX 10 Graphics Card or higher
      • Operating: System Windows 7 or higher
      • Browser: The current version of Chrome or Firefox
      • Webcam
    • Should I buy a Windows or Macintosh computer?


      The University of North Georgia fully supports both Windows and Macintosh computers on campus.  Any computers that work in a home environment will work properly at the University of North Georgia.  Some software on campus is specific to Windows machines, however, Macintosh computers may be configured with BootCamp to allow compatibility with this software.

      At this time, only Windows and Macintosh computers are supported for the use of Microsoft Office products. Computers such as Google Chromebooks currently do not have access to install Microsoft Office products, however, you may use the Virtual Labs in order to access Microsoft Office products from any computer with an Internet browser. Learn more about accessing the Virtual Labs.

    • Should I buy Microsoft Office?

      No, with your Student Technology Fee, each student is eligible for up to 5 licenses for personal computers. For information on installing Microsoft Office products, please visit our Software Portal or one of the Service Desk locations.

      Microsoft Office includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote*, and Access**.

      *OneNote is available for Macintosh from the Apple App Store. ** Access is currently only available on PCs.

    • Are there student discounts available?

      Many computer manufacturers offer discounts to students through an Educational Store. Listed below are manufacturers that offer discounts.

    Printing

    • How many pages can I print per semester?
      At the beginning of each semester all enrolled students are given a print allocation amount of $20. This amount does not carry over each semester and any unused amount from this allocation will be deducted from your account at the end of each semester.
      • Single-sided black and white - $0.06 
      • Double-sided black and white - $0.04  
      • Single-sided color - $0.12 
      • Double-sided color - $0.10
    • How do I add funds to my print account?

      Beyond the initial allocation of $20 all students are able to add funds to their print account via the Card Services website. Funds added this way do carry over each semester, these additional funds you add yourself are not removed at the end of each semester like the initial print allocation amount.

    • How do I get a print refund?

      Students logged into on campus computers can visit the managed print site and request refunds directly.

    • What should I do if I don't have an initial print balance?
      If your University of North Georgia ID card has not been issued or was recently re-issued, it is possible that your account will not be credited the appropriate funds at the start of the semester. In this case, please contact the IT Service Desk for the funds to be manually added to your account.
    • What is managed print?

      Managed Print was identified as an opportunity to save the institution and its students money.

      The Managed Print initiative will seek to reduce waste, increase efficiency, create accountability, facilitate metrics collection/reporting and offer improved features and functionality by creating a unified managed print system that will meet the needs and expectations of students, faculty and staff across all UNG campuses.
