Waitlisted Courses

  • If the course you are interested in registering for has a waitlist option, it will be listed in the Course Schedule and in Nighthawk Registration through Banner Web. Please note that not all courses use the waitlist option.
  • The Department offering the course determines the waitlist cap for each section. Once the maximum number of students have claimed a spot on the waitlist, the waitlist will be closed.
  • You can see your position on the waitlist in your Student Detail Schedule in Banner Web.
  • You will receive a generated email once a seat is available for you, and will have 12 hours to register for that class.
  • Please Note: Be sure you know whether or not there is an active waitlist on a course prior to attempting to register. Courses with a waitlist can appear to have an open seat and while there is technically an open seat, that seat is reserved for the next person on the waitlist. Because of this, please do not drop a course you are already registered for until you have confirmed that there is a seat available in the course you are seeking.

Waitlist Instructions

  • When searching for classes in Nighthawk Registration, students should make sure to choose the Course Status of “Open & Full w/Waitlist Open” in order to see all class options.
  • When a student attempts to register for a class that is full and receives a closed course message, with a note that the Waitlist is available (“CLOSED – WAITLIST”), then the student may change the registration status to either "DROP" (DW) to decline the registration or "WAITLIST" (WL) to be placed on the waitlist.
  • When an opening becomes available, the student will receive an email in their UNG email account notifying them of the opportunity to register.
  • The student must then log in to Banner Web and change the registration status for the course from "WAITLIST" to "WEB REGISTERED" and click “Save Changes”.
  • If the student does not register within 12 hours, the opportunity goes to the next person on the waitlist.
  • If the student decides they no longer wish to be on the waitlist or gets a seat in a different section, they should go into Banner Web and drop the waitlist section so the next student in line can be accommodated more quickly.

General Guidelines

  • The waitlist feature is a first come, first served function.
  • To be added to the waitlist, a student must add themselves to it using the registration area of Banner. The waitlist feature does not automatically register the student in the class. The student must take action to register in Banner.
  • The waitlist feature holds a position until an opening becomes available and notification occurs.
  • The waitlist feature does not guarantee a chance to register for a course.
  • If a student does not meet the prerequisite requirements of a class, they cannot be added to the waitlist.
