What Are You Doing Now?
I am a marketing coordinator for Comedian Ron White.
How did you get your job?
I found it on LinkedIn and applied.
On a typical day in your position, what do you do?
I wear many hats, so I honestly do a little of everything from advertising, to marketing, to managing the office. My typical day consists of talking to venues, monitoring ticket sales, and helping make marketing decisions.
What special advice would you give someone entering your field of work?
For someone entering the marketing profession, I would tell them that a lot of times you do not only do marketing. Marketing can encompass many different things. However, it is a good line of work because you learn a lot that can help you grow in your career. If someone was entering the entertainment side of this career, I would tell them that the business is constantly changing; therefore, you have to be able to adapt quickly.
If you were in the position to hire new graduates, what would you look for in them?
If I was in a hiring position, I would look for charisma, advanced communications skills, adaptability, and someone who is passionate about what they do.
Was there anything specific that you learned while attending UNG that has been especially beneficial in your career?
If I had to pick one thing to be the most beneficial, it would be my senior project. I knew exactly what I wanted to do, so I used the project to my advantage. I created a public relations campaign about the music industry. When I applied for this job, I brought a copy of it to my interviews. I believe it is what made me stand out from the other applicants. It showed that I had a passion for the industry and stood as proof of my knowledge. Overall, my biggest piece of advice would be to create something that you are passionate about because it will be fun for you to create, present, and will be impressive to your future employers. Not every assignment is just an assignment. View each one as a tool for your future.
