School of Communication, Film, & Theatre (CFT)

The School of Communication, Film & Theatre (CFT) benefits from collaboration and synergy to offer students a multitude of educational and developmental opportunities. Our degrees are among the signature programs on the UNG-Gainesville campus and prepare students for careers in filmmaking, journalism, public relations, organizational leadership, technical theatre, acting, digital media production, and many other related professions. The common thread among our programs is storytelling in all its forms.

CFT’s facilities are among the best in the southeast, and our top-notch professional educators utilize hands-on, individualized training in our state-of-the-art classrooms and labs to ensure students get an undergraduate experience full of opportunity. Our close proximity to Atlanta makes for abundant professional opportunities right in our backyard.

CFT majors have access to a host of award-winning organizations. The Theatre program is part of a one-of-a-kind, nationally recognized collaboration with Brenau University called Gainesville Theatre Alliance (GTA). Emphasizing ensemble and collaboration between programs, GTA’s cross-university union supports an extraordinary production program rivaling the largest theatre schools in the country. CFT partners with the Georgia Film Academy, allowing students to integrate GFA courses into their UNG program of study. CFT’s Debate, Forensics, Interpretation Team competes in regional, national, and international debate tournaments and has won national championships, competed in tournaments on three continents, and hosted tournaments in English and Spanish. Vanguard Student Media is a multi-platform, student-run news organization that operates on the Gainesville and Dahlonega campuses. CFT’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter helps PR majors connect to a network of peers and professionals who will become lifelong friends and mentors through the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) National and regional events, PRSSA Chapters, and social media. These are just some of the student organizations housed in CFT. We invite you to explore all of clubs and honor societies.
