Jeff Marker
Overview
Jeff Marker studied film in the Comparative Literature department at the University of Georgia, where he earned his Ph.D. in 2006. He began teaching at Gainesville State College that fall and has continued to work on the UNG-Gainesville campus ever since. His primary areas of research are surveillance in cinema, Shakespeare on film, and theories of the cinematic spectator. He has been published in Surveillance & Society, Literature/Film Quarterly, and The Journal of Popular Culture and has presented at numerous academic conferences. In addition to academic scholarship, Jeff has reviewed movies for several years and is a member of the Southeastern Film Critics Association and the Georgia Film Critics Association. He has also directed, written, and/or edited several music videos. Jeff's administrative career began in 2013 when he became the Head of the Communication, Media & Journalism Department. In 2022, he became the Director of the newly formed School of Communication, Film & Theatre. He has also served as the co-Executive Director of the Georgia Film Festival since its inception in 2016.
