What is the difference between dropping and withdrawing from a course?

There are three big differences

#1 - DeadlinesThe deadline to drop a class is usually within the first week of the semester.
The deadline to withdraw from a class is typically toward the middle of the semester (mid-October for fall and mid-March for spring).

#2 - A withdrawal counts toward enrollment.
When a student withdraws from a class, the class remains on the student’s schedule and their transcript with a grade of a “W.”

#3 – Withdrawals can affect your Financial Aid.
Course withdrawals can negatively impact your financial aid. Ask your Financial Aid counselor how a withdrawal could affect you.
