A

Academic Advising Operations Update

Welcome back! During the fall 2020 semester, professional advisors in campus Academic Advising Centers will offer in-person appointments on campus and also continue to be available for virtual appointments. The Centers will be open Monday - Friday of every week with partial staffing of professional advisors, who will rotate on-campus work.  Appointments can be booked by visiting adviseme.ung.edu, including student preference for an in-person or virtual meeting. Walk-in students will also continue to be served in the Advising Centers. 

Be on the lookout for an email communication from your Center advisor detailing the advisor's personal schedule!

Admissions Operations Update

Admissions Events Canceled

The upcoming Undergraduate Admissions events including campus tours on all UNG campuses  have been canceled until further notice in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance related to large events and the evolving COVID-19 situation.

We are creating expanded virtual options and are hosting virtual student panels for you and your students to learn more about the University of North Georgia. 

Undergraduate Admissions personnel will still be available via email to answer any questions that you may have regarding the University of North Georgia.

Athletic Events

The Peach Belt Conference has announced that all fall competition involving cross country, volleyball and soccer will be delayed until October 1. A decision concerning men's and women's basketball will be made at a later date.

Cadet Admissions Operations Update

Staff members have returned to campus. Campus tours can be scheduled as individual family appointments and will be conducted in accordance with CDC guidelines. Remote meetings can also be facilitated for those not wishing to visit campus at this time.

Career Services Operations Update

Career Services welcomes you! Beginning August 10, our offices on the Gainesville and Dahlonega campuses are open normal operating hours. The Oconee, Cumming and Blue Ridge campuses are served virtually during the fall semester. For students, first appointments with a career specialist are virtual, which may be scheduled online or by phone or email. For quick questions or to schedule an appointment in person, stop by during office hours. Employers and UNG alumni may reach us by phone or email for assistance.

Career Services is hosting virtual career chats throughout the summer and fall. You may register on Handshake for links to these chats.

Summer Hours Will End August 7

Only the following take-out dining options are available:

  • Dahlonega Dining Hall
    • Breakfast: Bags are available for pick up for the following day.
    • Lunch: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
    • Dinner: 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Dahlonega Starbucks is open from 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for the summer. 

All other dining options on all campuses are currently closed. Mobile ordering is available on the Dahlonega Campus only.

Fall 2020 Notice

Dining Services will be fully functional and students will be able to eat in the dining hall at the Dahlonega Campus and the food courts at the Gainesville and Dahlonega campuses, though capacity will be limited to encourage social distancing.  We are also providing other opportunities to order through our dining app and grab and go options to take meals to eat in other locations.

Meal plans will begin three days early to accommodate move-in dates for fall 2020. Students, faculty and staff can use their meal plan swipes August 12 through December 4, which includes use during remote instruction for finals week.

Grants and Contracts Administration (GCA) staff are back in the office and operating under normal hours but request that you still make an appointment to meet with the staff.

Our Language Labs are open and ready to help you! However, due to social distancing guidelines, our capacity for in-person visits has been greatly reduced. To safely accommodate in-person visits, we ask that you make an appointment to visit one of our physical lab spaces.

Library Operations Updates

Your Library, Online

All UNG library locations are currently open to UNG employees and students only from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday. Online help is available during the following hours:

All contact methods (chat, email, voicemail, and webforms) are monitored during these hours and responded to as quickly as possible.

Reference and Informational Questions - Please use chat or email  so that we may route your question to the appropriate person. 

Research Consultations - Requests for consultations are being delivered remotely (e.g. Teams, Skype, Blackboard Collaborate.) Please allow 48 business hours advance notice from the time of your request in order to allow for adequate preparation.

Library Instruction - Sessions are being delivered remotely (e.g. Teams, Skype, Blackboard Collaborate) or instructors may request instructional materials for inclusion in D2L.  Any instruction that has not already been scheduled, should be requested at least two weeks in advance to allow for adequate preparation.

Physical Items are available for checkout at all locations during open hours. Due dates for all materials have been extended and items (books, technology) should not be returned until facilities reopen. For questions please email accessservices@ung.edu.

Summer Language Institutes Operations Update

Based on current public health guidance, UNG has reduced operations and on-campus staffing. The Summer Language Institutes delivery will be via a 100% online format.

Student Health Services Operations

Students may use the Student Health Centers in Dahlonega or Gainesville, rather than an urgent care, primary care, or emergency facility, but they should call ahead to make an appointment. 

Students should contact Student Health Services by email or phone before going to the Health Center, particularly if they have potential COVID-19 symptoms.

Student Money Management Center Operations Update

Staff are working remotely and will respond to emails and phone calls during business hours as our physical offices remain closed.

Student Money Management Center personnel will be available to meet with students via online appointment through Skype or Microsoft Teams. To book an appointment with SMMC staff, either schedule an appointment online (login required) or contact us by phone or email smmc@ung.edu.

Supplemental Instruction Operations Update

Supplemental Instruction at UNG is committed to serving our students during the transition to online instruction for the foreseeable future. Sessions will remain consistent, collaborative, and engaging through the use of Blackboard Collaborate. Testing Centers Operations Update

The UNG Testing Centers are offering limited in-person tests. Virtual test administrations will continue for all Accuplacer and Legislative exams. Effective July 15, all persons entering the UNG Testing Centers will be required to wear a face covering.

Please be mindful: Testing staff use latex free gloves when handling test materials. If you have an allergy that may impact your testing experience, please notify testing staff of your concern.

Tutoring Services Operations Update

Free online tutoring through Tutoring Services is available for enrolled UNG students. Tutoring sessions are conducted by UNG professional and peer tutors. Our physical offices remain closed as staff work remotely.

Writing tutoring is available through WCOnline; math, physics, chemistry, accounting, and other subjects are tutored through Microsoft Teams. See Tutoring Services for more details.
