    Overview

    Dr. Mobasher is a faculty member in the Lewis F. Rogers Institute for Environmental and Spatial Analysis (IESA). She began her academic career in 2001 as a teaching assistant at Georgia State University. In 2005 she worked as a lecturer of geology at Berry College in Rome, GA teaching environmental geology and introductory geology courses and labs. She then moved to Georgia State University and worked as a visiting instructor of geology teaching introductory geology courses and Introductions to Earth’s Materials. Dr. Mobasher came to the Gainesville campus in 2008 as an assistance professor of geology. She became an associate professor in 2012 at UNG. She is a certified GIS Professional (GISP).

    Dr. Mobasher is the Principal Investigator for NSF’s the Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Pathways into Geoscience (IUSE: GEOPATHS) program-GP-IN: Engaging High school STEM Educators and Special Education Teachers in Innovative Geoscience Teaching, Learning, and Research Environments.

    Additionally, Dr. Mobasher is the state coordinator for ESRI K-12 ArcGIS Online (AGL) national mapping competition.

    • Structural Geology,  Geographic Information Science (GIS), Remote sensing
      • Kinematic and tectonic analysis of the fold- and fault-related fracture systems in fold and thrust belts
      • Structural analysis of ophiolitic complex using GIS and remote sensing
    • Geochemistry and Petrology
      • Bimodal volcanism and magma mingling
      • Accretionary prism, arc volcanism, and supra-subduction zones
    • Medical Geology and GIS
      • Effects of geological environments on human health
    • Geodatabase design and ArcGIS Online
      • Developing a virtual field guide for Georgia

    Publications

    Dr. Mobasher has published and presented aspects of her research in the areas of structural geology, petrology and geochemistry, GIS and remote sensing applications in geology and education. She has written several grants and remains active in mentoring student projects.
