FAQs for Incoming Spring/Fall 2021 Students

Spring 2021

  • When will Spring 2021 Housing applications open?
    • Starting in October, we pull weekly reports and send invitation emails. If you know you have applied as a residential student, confirmed your acceptance but have not received an invite within two weeks after confirming, please email residencelife@ung.edu to check your status.
  • As a new Spring student, am I guaranteed a room for the Spring semester?
    • Spring availability is dependent on vacancies. In the past, we have been able to offer housing to everyone on the Spring housing wait list. With COVID-19 and many students delaying their start until Spring 2021, we expect a higher number of applications than usual. We will offer housing on a first come, first serve basis, but we cannot make a 100 percent guarantee.
  • Are there any additional fees besides rent and meal plan associated with a housing application and contract?
    • Yes, students who begin a housing application will be charged a non-refundable $150 housing application fee. Students will be liable for this fee even if they do not finish the housing application or decide to cancel their application later.
  • How long is the contract? What if I decide to cancel?
    • The Spring 2021 contract will run January-May 2021. If you plan to live on Fall 2021-May 2022, you will have to do another application when that process opens around late January/early February. It is a quick turnaround, so be sure and watch your UNG email closely for deadlines.
    • What if I decide to cancel? Contracts are legally binding once signed. Be aware of the cancellation penalty schedule and the semesterly cost before signing. Reminder, all students (except for Owen) are required to have a meal plan; these costs are not included in the semesterly room rates.
  • What type of housing will be available?
    • We will be offering contracts for double-occupancy, suite-style in Patriot Hall, North Georgia Suites, and The Commons.
  • Will there be singles?
    • Typically, not for Spring.
    • Have a documented medical need? You will need to apply for a residency accommodation through the Student Disability office. If approved, Residence Life will work to place you in a room that fulfills your accommodation, but it will all be contingent on availability.
  • Will I be able to match up with roommates?
    • There will not be a roommate matching period for Spring, but applicants will complete a roommate profile. We will use this to pair you with your best available match with the vacancies available.
  • Is the process different for transfer students?
    • New Transfers: If you are transferring from another school, you will show up on our report, and you will receive an invitation email to your UNG email.
    • Internal Transfer:  If you are doing an internal transfer from a different UNG campus, we will send you an invitation once your internal transfer application has been approved and your home campus is updated to Dahlonega in Banner for Spring 2021. On your internal transfer application, be sure and notate that you want to be a resident.

Fall 2021

  • When will Fall 2021 Housing applications open?
    • At the earliest, we will start sending invitation emails to students who have confirmed their acceptance starting in December 2020. You cannot receive an invitation until you have confirmed your acceptance with Admissions.
    • Academic year 2021-2022 housing contracts are binding for the full academic year, August 2021-May 2022.
    • What if I decide to cancel? Contracts are legally binding once signed. Be aware of the cancellation penalty schedule and the semesterly cost before signing. Reminder, all students (except for Owen) are required to have a meal plan; these costs are not included in the semesterly room rates.
  • How will I find a roommate?
    • Roommate matching begins in March of each year. You may search for particular students if you already have a roommate in mind or allow the housing portal to suggest roommates for you.  You may either create or join a roommate group.
  • When will room selection begin?
    • Room selection for new students will open in April, but your room selection time-slot will be determined by the date you started your housing application. For example, if my friend started their application on January 15, but I did not start mine until January 31, their room selection time-slot will be earlier than mine. Room selection works on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Will there be singles?
    • Residence Life has a very limited number of single rooms. The majority of single rooms are held for students with documented medical needs, and this number continues to increase each year. With this increase, singles are limited the general student, so students should plan to have a roommate.
    • Have a documented medical need? You will need to apply for a residency accommodation through the Student Disability office. If approved, Residence Life will work to place you in a room that fulfills your accommodation, contingent on availability.
  • How will I be alerted of updates and new section openings?
    • All housing application updates will only be sent to students’ UNG email addresses. Upon confirming your acceptance, please start the routine of checking this account once a day.
  • Is the process different for transfer students?
    • New Transfers: If you are transferring from another school, you will receive an invitation to apply for housing the week following your confirmation of attendance.
    • Campus Change: If you are changing campuses, Residence Life will email you an invitation to complete a housing application once your degree level with campus change application has been approved and your home campus updated to Dahlonega in Banner. On your campus change application, be sure to indicate that you want to be a residential student.
