    FAQs for Incoming Students

    • Fall 2023
      • When will Fall Housing applications open?
        • At the earliest, we will start sending invitation emails to students who have confirmed their acceptance starting in December. You cannot receive an invitation until you have confirmed your acceptance with Admissions. Housing is in high demand and fills quickly and it is important that you submit your housing application as soon as possible after you receive the email invitation to apply. Priority deadline to apply for housing is 3/15.
      • Are there any additional fees besides rent and meal plan associated with a housing application and contract?
        • Yes, students who begin a housing application will be charged a non-refundable $150 housing application fee. Students will be liable for this fee even if they do not finish the housing application or decide to cancel their application later.
      • How long is the contract? What if I decide to cancel?
        • Fall contracts are binding for the full academic year August - May.
        • What if I decide to cancel? Contracts are legally binding once signed. Be aware of the cancellation penalty schedule and the semesterly cost before signing. Reminder, all students (except for Owen) are required to have a meal plan; these costs are not included in the semesterly cost.
      • Will I be able to match up with roommates?
        • Yes, but this section of the application process will not start until February/March at the earliest.
      • When will room selection begin?
        • Room selection for new students will open in April, but your room selection time-slot will be determined by the date you started your housing application. For example, if my friend started their application on January 5, but I did not start mine until January 31, their room selection time-slot will be earlier than mine. Room selection works on a first come, first serve basis.
      • Will there be singles?
        • Residence Life has a very limited number of single rooms. The majority of single rooms are held for students with documented medical needs, and this number continues to increase each year. With this increase, singles are limited the general student, so students should plan to have a roommate.
        • Have a documented medical need? You will need to apply for a residency accommodation through the Student Accessibility office. If approved, Residence Life will work to place you in a room that fulfills your accommodation, contingent on availability.
      • How will I be alerted of updates and new section openings?
        • All housing application updates will only be sent to students’ UNG email addresses. Upon confirming your acceptance, please start the routine of checking this account once a day.
      • Is the process different for transfer students?
        • New Transfers: If you are transferring from another school, you will receive an invitation in your UNG email to apply for housing.
        • Internal Transfers: If you are doing an internal transfer from a different UNG campus, we will send you an invitation once your degree level with campus change application has been approved and your home campus updated to Dahlonega in Banner for fall. On your degree level change application, be sure to indicate that you want to be a residential student.
        • All housing is offered on a first come, space available basis and Residence Life does not guarantee a particular residence hall, room style or preferred roommates.
