The Commons

Constructed in 2016, The Commons is a co-ed residence hall complex that houses freshmen and upperclassmen students in both single occupancy and double occupancy suite-style housing. The Commons is conveniently located across the street from the University of North Georgia (UNG) Dining Hall and adjacent to the Walker Drive residential parking deck.

Building 1: The Commons Building 1 contains 61 suites housing up to 187 students in single-gender suites. Building 1 also offers a large multi-purpose room as well as a balcony overlooking the beautiful Dahlonega campus. 

Building 2: The Commons Building 2 contains 108 suites housing up to 351 students in single-gender suites. 

Each floor offers free laundry with the exception of Building 1400s floor. Residents on the 1400s floor may utilize any of the free laundry facilities in The Commons. Each floor offers one lounge area per hall as well as a snack room or kitchen. The two bedroom, one bathroom suites are fully furnished, each bedroom includes one twin bed with a XL twin mattress, a chair, desk, chest, and closet per resident. Closets in The Commons do not contain doors to allow for flexible storage.  

The Commons is staffed with seventeen resident assistants and one resident director.

Move-In Checklist

  • You must have your UNG ID with you in order to check in. (See the semester sections above for further info.)
  • Have all of your boxes/belongings labeled with your name and room number.
  • Know which building, room, and time you have been assigned. Residents will check in at their assigned building and will not be allowed in before their assigned time.
  • Talk with your roommate about how you want your room to be set up (bunked, left single, etc.). Also discuss who is bringing the larger items (i.e. refrigerator, tv, etc.) if you intend to share.

This list provides suggestions from current residents. You do not have to bring all of this, and you may want to contact your roommate in advance and decide what the two of you can share. Remember, there is limited space in the rooms.

    • Microwaves are permitted in the Commons, but they can only be placed on the common area wall (between the two rooms) due to outlet voltage limits.
