Alumni Focus

IESA regularly features graduates from its AESA B.S. and Certificate programs in its "Alumni Focus." Because our graduates are hired for public and private sector jobs and accepted to graduate schools at a very high rate, we wanted to highlight these outstanding students and find out what made their experiences at UNG so unique.

Which concentration did you follow in your AESA degree?

The Engineering and IT Track

Were you considered a traditional or non-traditional student?

I was a traditional student that started at UNG right out of high school and completed my degree in four years.

What was your primary motivation for earning the AESA degree?

The AESA program really captured me and reignited my love for learning.

Where are you currently employed and what is your function?

I am currently employed at GetUWired, a web services company based in Dahlonega, GA. GetUWired provides everything necessary to have a web presence, including custom websites, marketing, customer management, and other services. I am a web developer / engineer and am responsible for "ground up" responsive web builds, custom coding, and site integration.

Is this your first job after graduating?

This is my first job after graduating and I had secured the position a month prior to graduation.

Describe the most challenging or most rewarding project you have worked on since graduating that involved the use of geospatial technology.

Since starting my job, one of my favorite projects has involved working on a massive customer database containing all of a customer's client information, which included spatial attributes. I have also enjoyed working with the Google Maps API on different client sites.

What are specific skills that you acquired in the program that have helped you in your current position?

Understanding and working with geodatabases, coding, and working with teams on projects from tracking of stages to version completion.

Additional comments?

I think that the BS in ESA is a great program and am proud to tell people what my degree is and where I earned it!

Thanks, Brandon, for taking the time to answer our questions!
