Library Instruction for Faculty
All Library instruction during the Spring 2021 semester will be conducted online.
The UNG Library Instruction Program’s mission is to develop and teach transferable information literacy proficiencies and promote lifelong learning among the University of North Georgia community. The program parallels the University’s mission of creating a culture of academic excellence in a student-focused environment.
The program’s goals are to:
- Promote teaching and learning in all library programs and services.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate information literacy into the curriculum and learning initiatives.
- Teach creatively and effectively to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
- Provide multi-modal delivery for library instruction.
- Assess and continuously improve instruction.
- Encourage and support library faculty in developing and maintaining strong information literacy pedagogical skills.
The Library Instruction Program is composed of three main components: subject-specific sessions available for all courses by faculty request, Information Literacy credit courses, and drop-in workshops held throughout the year. In addition, the librarians are available for reference assistance and collaboration on research assignments.
Please note: Because of the volume of requests received and the time needed to tailor the instruction content, we ask that requests be submitted no later than two weeks before the scheduled session. Instruction requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and are scheduled based on librarian availability.
Library Instruction Sessions
Library faculty will work with you to teach in-class sessions based on your assignments and course curriculum designed to help your students learn critical thinking and research skills. Our instruction sessions are customized presentations, with hands-on training when appropriate, specifically tailored to your class's assigned research assignments. Students learn to select, evaluate, and use quality electronic and print resources for their research.
If you have a student that needs accommodation due to a disability please have them contact Angela Megaw, 706-867-2528 or angela.megaw@ung.edu, at least one week prior to your scheduled instruction session to request assistance.
Schedule a session by filling out an Instruction Request Form.
Information Literacy Credit Courses
Library faculty members teach for-credit courses (RSCH 1501 and RSCH 1502) focusing on information literacy and academic research. Please see the UNG Undergraduate Catalog for more information.
