    Library Instruction Program

The Library Instruction Program’s mission is to develop transferable information literacy skills, encourage critical thinking, and promote lifelong learning among the University of North Georgia community. The program parallels the University’s mission of creating a culture of academic excellence in a student-focused environment.

Our information literacy instruction efforts focus on three key activities:

    • offering research skills-related course content and materials, instruction sessions, and assignment design collaboration to classroom faculty
    • teaching information literacy credit courses for UNG students
    • providing reference assistance and research consultation appointments for students, faculty, and staff.
    • Library Instruction Services

Libraries’ faculty members provide a variety of instruction options, including:

      • creating instructional resources instructors can share through D2L
      • conducting synchronous information literacy skills class sessions on-line and in-person
      • providing hands-on research workshops
      • offering research support through class discussion boards and designated office hours

Complete the Instruction Inquiry Form to have a librarian contact you to discuss the best format, venue, and timing for presenting the information and instruction your students need.

Please note: Because of the volume of requests received and the time needed to tailor the instruction content, we ask that requests be submitted no later than two weeks in advance. Instruction requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and may be limited due to the availability of our faculty members.

If you have a student that needs accommodation due to a disability, please have them contact Angela Megaw, 706-867-2528 or angela.megaw@ung.edu, at least one week prior to a scheduled instruction session to request assistance.

    • Information Literacy Credit Courses

Library faculty members teach for-credit courses (RSCH 1501 and RSCH 1502) focusing on information literacy and academic research. Please see the UNG Undergraduate Catalog for more information.

    • Other Services

      Research Assignment Design Collaboration

Library faculty will work with you to integrate library research and information literacy skills into your course and assignments; and to identify the best available library resources to support your students’ research. Please contact us to begin the process.

      Reference Assistance

We offer reference assistance through a variety of delivery methods. Visit the Ask a Librarian webpage for details about in-person, phone, email, text, and chat reference options.

      Research Consultations

A research consultation is a one-on-one or small group appointment with a librarian for extensive, in-depth research assistance. Request a Research Consultation.

Library instructional offerings may vary by location.
