The New Faculty Institute (NFI) program introduces newly hired faculty to the University of North Georgia’s (UNG) mission of “quality education, service, inquiry and creativity.”
The program supports acclimation to the institution for new faculty and teaching staff and fosters camaraderie for all while promoting teaching excellence and professional development. One of the most beneficial aspects of the program arises in the sharing of experiences and insights from our classroom practices.
We strongly encourage all full-time and part-time faculty new to UNG to participate in the New Faculty Institute program, a series of six workshops across the full academic year offered on the Dahlonega and Gainesville Campuses, as well as online on Zoom.
To qualify for a program certificate, NFI participants must attend four of the six available sessions, complete the corresponding session assignments, and submit a teaching portfolio (described below) on One Drive at the end of the year. If you need to miss a third session and still wish to earn a certificate, please make every attempt to contact CTLL prior to the session or up to a week after the session so alternative accommodations can be made. A certificate cannot be earned by anyone who does not attend at least three sessions in person.
Teaching portfolios are designed to apply knowledge gained through the NFI experience and help you produce a portfolio that will be similar in content for use in the promotion and tenure process. The portfolios will be built throughout the OneDrive. Content will be evaluated by a CTLL staff member and provide personalized feedback with an eye on enhancing the presentation of your materials.
