Time Off (Vacation and Sick Leave)
UNG offers both vacation and sick leave to benefits eligible employees.
Who is eligible?
Regular, full-time, and part-time benefits eligible employees are eligible to accrue vacation hours.
How much do I get?

Do not accrue vacation time. |
Administrators and Administrative Faculty |
Accrue 14 hours per month regardless of years of service. |
Full-Time Staff |
Accrue vacation hours as follows: Years of Service Accrual Rate

Part-Time Regular (30-39 hours per week) |
Accrue vacation hours in an equivalent ratio to their percentage of time employed. |
Part-Time Regular (less than half-time) |
Do not earn or accrue vacation time. |
Temporary Employees (less than half-time) (Student assistants, graduate assistants, part-time instructors) |
Do not earn or accrue vacation time. |
How Much Can I Carry Over to the Next Year?
Unused vacation time will roll over each year; however, on December 31 of each calendar year, each employee's leave record shall be adjusted to reflect no more than 45 days (360 hours) of accrued vacation/annual leave.
What Happens to My Unused Vacation Hours When I Leave UNG?
All unused accrued vacation/annual leave, not to exceed 45 days (360 hours), shall be paid to an employee upon their termination from employment.

Accrue eight (8) hours sick leave per month. |
Part-Time Benefits Eligible Employees |
Accrue at an equivalent ratio to their percentage of employment (i.e. 30 hour/week employees accrue at three-fourths the rate of full-time employees). |
Temporary Employees (including student assistants, graduate assistants, and part-time instructors) |
Do not accrue sick leave. |
How Much Can I Carry Over to the Next Year?
There is no limit to the amount of sick leave that an employee may accrue and carry into the next calendar year.
What Happens to My Unused Sick Leave When I Leave UNG?
A terminating employee shall not be paid for sick leave earned but not taken. However, employees retiring may use accumulated sick leave to earn additional service time with the Teachers Retirement System.
