    Questions?

Contact NEST us at nest@ung.edu  or call 706-864-1010 so we can get you the information you need!

    1. Immediate Steps After Acceptance

    • 1.1 Activate Your UNG Account

You will use the same username and password to log in to a number of important university systems. Use the activate your UNG account link to find your username and enroll in the password management system.

Once you have activated your UNG account, for your security, all UNG contact and correspondence will be sent to your UNG email account. Please also use your UNG email account when contacting UNG faculty and staff. It is important to be checking this email consistently on a weekly or daily basis.

Please note: After a student is admitted, it may take up to 48 hours before the student's information is available to activate. If you are not able to activate your UNG account after 48 hours, contact the IT help desk at 706-864-1922 for assistance with activation.

Once complete, then you will be able to access and explore:

      • Student Email
      • BannerWeb
      • eLearning
      • myUNG
    • 1.2 Submit Your Confirmation of Acceptance Form

All students should complete a Confirmation of Acceptance; however, the method could be different depending on your circumstances. See the Confirmation of Acceptance page in Undergraduate Admissions for what action you need to take.

You must complete the Confirmation of Acceptance process prior to receiving access to the Online Pre-Orientation modules.

    • 1.3 Apply for Financial Aid

If you’d like assistance in paying your tuition and fees, the Financial Aid office may be able to help. Financial aid encompasses both federal and state aid programs, including federal loans, scholarships (for academics, athletics, leadership, etc.), and VA benefits. We encourage you to explore all your options and carefully determine the right amount of aid for your circumstances. UNG offers a convenient payment plan through a third-party company to arrange monthly payments. If interested, students can enroll in the payment plan in Banner after class registration. Learn more about payment plans.

After submitting your financial aid application, you should be very pro-active in monitoring your eligibility and award status via your BannerWeb account.

      Special Notes for Transfer Students:

      1. If you have already submitted your FAFSA for the academic year you will be attending UNG, you will need to go to fafsa.gov to make a correction to your FAFSA by adding UNG's school code: 001585
      2. Loans at your prior school must be canceled before you can request any remaining loan funds from UNG.
      3. All final transcripts from prior schools must be submitted to UNG before your financial aid eligibility is determined.

The Financial Aid Timeline is a helpful tool for all students.

Important Note:  Although you can apply for most forms of aid at any time during the academic year, it’s best to submit your application and all required supporting documents before the priority deadlines to ensure your aid can be processed and awarded prior to the start of term.

      • Fall Priority Deadline – February 14
      • Spring Priority Deadline – November 1
      • Summer Priority Deadline – April 1
    • 1.4 Register for the Required Online Only (OO) Student Orientation

Online Only (OO) Students admitted to UNG for Summer 2023 and Fall 2023 are required to register and complete a self-paced online orientation course. Once this self-paced course is complete, your orientation hold will be lifted.

When you make your reservation, you will be charged a $40 orientation fee and gain access to the online orientation course.

      OO Reservations and Registration

      The reservation process includes:

      1. Login to Banner
      2. Go to the Student tab
      3. Click on the Orientation Reservation link
      4. Confirm your reservation
      5. Click on the Online Orientation Course button to begin your orientation course
      6. Once you have completed the course, your orientation hold will be removed
      7. Readmit students will be able to self-register after completing orientation once their time ticket becomes active.
        • Online Only students will be contacted by an Online Student Success Advisor who will assist with building the class schedule.

Note: For information about payment, cancellations, and other questions, see the FAQs page.

    • 1.5 Review Your Transfer Credit Evaluation
      1. Log in to Banner
      2. Select the "Student" tab
      3. Select "Student Records"
      4. Select "Student Tranguid" and ensure that all credit has been articulated. If you do not see a course on your transcript that you believe should be there, there may be a few reasons:
      • In-progress courses – credit for courses you are currently enrolled in, have completed while in the admissions process, or completed since the last time you submitted a transcript from your previous institution will not be applied until an official transcript indicating grades is received
      • Course credit for AP or other test credit – Official scores may not have been received from the testing agency used to take the tests, which is needed to post this credit
      • Non-transferable courses – some credit may not have been accepted based on the accreditation of the institution where the courses were taken or based on the technical nature of the coursework.

Any test scores or transcripts that have not been sent to UNG should be sent as soon as possible (with final grades or scores indicated) to ensure application of appropriate credit to your record.

Any questions about your transfer credit evaluation can be sent to transfer@ung.edu.

    2. Actions to Complete Prior to Orientation/Class Registration

    • 2.1 Submit a Photo for Your UNG ID Card (Nighthawks Card)

Visit the UNG ID Card Photo Submission page to see photo guidelines and the photo submission portal. Students required to attend orientation must upload a photo at least three business days prior to your orientation session.

Note: Online Photo Submission for new terms will not be available until the below dates.

      Semester Availability
      Summer mid - April
      Fall mid - May
      Spring mid - October
    • 2.2 Complete eCore Introduction Quiz

Complete the eCore Introduction Quiz whether or not you plan to take an online course at this time. The quiz takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

eCore courses are designed, developed, taught and supported by faculty and staff from the University System of Georgia (USG) and are a great option for completing core curriculum requirements.

Please note: The eCore academic calendar (start/stop dates) is different from the normal UNG academic calendar.

Visit the UNG Online Learning web page for an explanation of the difference between eCore classes and UNG Online classes, as well as other important information.

    • 2.3 Set Up Your Accessibility Accommodations (If Applicable)

As you may already know, obtaining special accommodations in college is different than it is in high school.  If you previously had an IEP, 504 plan, or other documentation that would reflect the need for accommodations, please contact the Office of Student Accessibility Services to discuss your specific needs and the process to receive accommodations at UNG. Please be advised that the intake process takes time, so it’s important to schedule an appointment before the start of term to ensure your accommodations are in place when classes begin. Students must actively request accommodations, even when they transfer from another college, through the Student Accessibility Services office in order to receive them.

Once registered, you will need to notify your professor(s) in order to receive special accommodations.

    • 2.4 Submit Your Immunization Form

All new students (freshman, transfers, and others) attending regularly scheduled classes or receiving resident credit are required to submit a Certificate of Immunization to Student Health Services. Please refer to the Dean of Students website for more information and to download the form. Students will have a registration hold placed on their account preventing registration for a second semester until this documentation is submitted.

Please note you are required to have up to date immunization records on file with Student Health Services. If updates are needed, you will have a hold listed on your Check Application Status page with “immunization incomplete”. You can contact Student Health Services for more information. This hold will prevent you from registering for classes. There is an exemption for distance learners on the second page, however if you transfer to one of our physical campuses you will need to update your immunization form.

    • 2.5 Schedule an Academic Advising/DETI Appointment (If Applicable)

Monitor your email for communication from the UNG Advisor who is building your course schedule for the upcoming term.

Students can find the name of their advisor by logging in to Banner Web and viewing their tranguid.

      1. Log in to Banner
      2. Select the "Student" tab
      3. Select "Student Records"
      4. Select "Student Tranguid"

    3. Actions to Complete After Orientation/Prior to First Day of Class

    • 3.1 Complete the Online Learning Readiness Assessment

All incoming students should complete the SmarterMeasure Online Learning Readiness Assessment. The survey takes about 30 minutes to complete. It is designed to help you understand your habits, traits and skills as they are related to learning at the college level. Completion of survey and survey results do not affect course registration.

You can contact the Online Student Success department for more information.

    • 3.2 Check for Holds
      1. Log in to Banner
      2. Select the "Student" tab
      3. Select "Student Records"
      4. Select "View Holds"

Orientation (OR) Hold: If you have an OR hold, please note it will be automatically removed once you complete orientation requirements.

Registration Agreement Needed (RN) Hold: This hold prohibits registration. It is required every six months.

      To remove the hold:

      1. Log in to Banner
      2. Select the "Student" tab
      3. Select "Student Records"
      4. Select "Manage Registration Agreement"
      5. Read the terms of the agreement, and select "I Agree" at the bottom.
      6. Once "I Agree" is clicked, the hold will be instantly removed.

Please reference the Student Holds website for an explanation of other holds and how to remove them.

    • 3.3 Schedule Adjustments

Students have until noon on the last day of drop/add to make schedule adjustments, pending course availability.

Please review the Core Curriculum and your Plan of Study before attempting any schedule adjustments.

Find information on how to register using the Nighthawk Registration system. You will be able to search for in-person, hybrid, and online courses within the Nighthawk Registration system.

You can reach out to your Academic Advisor for assistance if you are unable to adjust your schedule on your own.

      • The Academic Advisor is listed on your Tranguid in Banner. You can also go to adviseme.ung.edu and search for an appointment time with your advisor.
      • Learn more about Academic Advising.
    • 3.4 Review Invoice, Pay Tuition and Fee Bill, and Sign Up for Payment Plan

Please visit the Payment Deadlines & Information webpage for approximate information on when to pay fees. Students attending an orientation will have a different fee payment deadline which will be after their scheduled orientation session. You will learn more about this at orientation. We do encourage you to go ahead and set up a payment plan after you are registered for classes, but prior to orientation if needed.

Learn more about viewing and paying your student invoice.

    4. Actions to Complete Before the Start of Classes

    • 4.1 Order Your Virtual Parking Permit

All vehicles on campus are required to register for a valid UNG parking permit. Parking permits will be available for registration for summer and fall starts on August 15. Students beginning classes in the summer semester do not need to register for a parking permit until August 15. Learn more about registering your vehicle.

    • 4.2 Review the Tech Talk Guide

The Tech Talk guide is an introduction to the highly utilized technologies available at UNG. Students should be familiar with each of the items in this guide.

To access the Tech Talk Checklist, log in to UNG Connect. Go to Menu Bar on the left side of the UNG Connect home page. Scroll down to My Checklist and click on Tech Talk Guide. You will see a series of items with clickable links. As you complete each item, please mark the checkbox. Keep going until your completion bar reads 100%.

    • 4.3 Order Textbooks

Find textbooks for your courses at the UNG Bookstore.
