CTLL welcomes Dr. Carl Ohrenberg as Assistant Director

    Posted: February 4, 2019

    Dr. Carl Ohrenberg,
    Assistant Director of CTLL,
    Associate Professor of Chemistry

The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Leadership (CTLL) has expanded its leadership team! We welcome Dr. Carl Ohrenberg as the Assistant Director of CTLL. He joins Dr. Mary Carney and Dr. Rebecca Johnston in faculty development leadership across all five University of North Georgia campuses. His leadership skills have been honed, in part, through organizing the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Georgia Academy of Science, serving on the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate, chairing departmental committees, and mentoring incoming faculty.

Dr. Ohrenberg brings a keen interest and expertise in STEM pedagogies and seeks to promote the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning within STEM related disciplines. Additionally, his involvement with Reacting to the Past has motivated him to seek out ways to share this highly impactful pedagogy with the students at UNG. As a SoTL researcher, Carl is currently investigating methods to improve student engagement with, and student learning from, textbooks in order to promote active learning inside the science classroom. Carl also maintains an active chemical research program involving undergraduate students in ongoing research projects each semester. This work has resulted in a publication, several presentations at both regional and national chemistry meetings, and a Presidential Innovation Incentive Award for 2019.
