The Cadet Leadership Preparatory Program welcomes students who do not initially qualify for admission into the Corps of Cadets.

The program supports students with enhanced training and mentoring, inspiring cadet candidates success on the Gainesville campus, to successfully join the Corps in Dahlonega upon completion of their first year of college.

Aniya Taylor

My name is Aniya Taylor, I'm from Macon, GA and I'm a freshman. My major is Education, and I aspire to become an English teacher. I am apart of SGA, and I hold the position of the financial chair, I'm also a part of the social media ambassadors, along with Excelers as the communications. The CLP Program has driven me to become a person who can communicate well with others, and work on teamwork inside and outside of the classroom. CLPP has given me courage to become a better leader, and to foster a strong sense of responsibility and commitment.

Gabriel Fields

My name is Gabriel Fields and I am currently going to UNG for the CLPP program. A brief explanation of who I am is that I am from Tennessee and my father is of a military background. Most of my life I have been around the army and such so I'm very familiar with the program and I'm even more excited for the corps of cadets. The impact that CLPP has had on me is that it has kind of forced me to get out of my shell. I've never been good at being social but being around these people made me feel like I was on a team, or to put it in even more fond terms, a family. Being a part of CLPP is a blessing but having the resources necessary to us during college is so amazing.

Arabella Kook

My name is Arabella Kook and I am from Orlando, FL. Before coming to UNG, I participated in Civil Air Patrol and my high schools NJROTC program. The Cadet Leadership Preparatory Program has given me the opportunity to better myself and connected me with like-minded people who are trying to achieve similar things in life.

Seanelle O'Mard

Hi my name is Seanelle, I am 20 years old. I am from the Caribbean, but I live in Georgia. I am a member of the Georgia national guard. I am a great person. This program for me is a great way to get to see what ROTC is and how the core is. This program, for me is great because I made closer connections to people, learn to be a leader, held to a higher standard and overall be a great person. For me this program will help me be a great leader and person and all around.

Thomas VanHoosen

My name is Thomas VanHoosen. I am a sophomore currently pursuing a bachelor's in Cybersecurity. Outside of school, I am in the army reserves, and I enjoy working out and listening to music in my free time. For me, this program represents a path to excellence as I work towards commissioning in Dahlonega.

Noah Dixon

My name is Noah Dixon. I was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia and lived here all my life. I graduated from Collins Hill high school, and I am currently attending University of North Georgia and Gainesville eventually I do intend to transfer to Dahlonega so I can do the ROTC program up there. Took two years of ROTC in high school and wanted to continue the program. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I wake up at six to go to the Gainesville campus at UNG. I plan on getting my credit so that I can transfer to Monica in terms of going into the military. I’m still deciding on that. I’m more focused on doing the art pathways program, which is basically learning graphic design, animation, how to color correctly and doing motion pictures basically the fundamentals on making a cartoon show.

Annika Curtis

My name is Annika Curtis, I am 18 and a member of the UNG Gainesville Class of 2028. My current plan of study is for Cybersecurity. What this program means to me is growing and learning from myself and other cadets I want to be happy that will be physical and mentally happy in myself and for others too grow together as a team.

Elijah Smith

I am Elijah Smith; I’m from Alabama, and I want to be an officer. I’m in the National Guard, and I would like to make a career out of the army. Since WW1, there's been someone in my family in the army, and I would like to continue that chain. Both of my parents were in, my brothers and sisters too; it seems to be the family business, and I just want to be a part of it.

I would like to branch Infantry, and I’m going to fight like hell to make it happen. I enjoy the experience so far; the classes are necessary and informative. I enjoy the PT and being pushed out of my comfort zone. I appreciate the opportunity that you guys have given me.

Anykah Austin

My name is Anykah Austin. I'm 19 years old and currently reside in Stone Mountain Georgia, by way of New Orleans Louisiana where I lived until the age 17.

I graduated from Redan High School, and I am currently a freshman at University of North Georgia. Joining the CLPP Program means a lot to me especially because I have a deep family history in the armed forces all branches.

This program prepares me for my next chapter in life, giving me other options to choose from also providing an education and a career. This program gives me an opportunity to see what life would be like as a member of the Military.

The CLPP program brings us together as a whole and teaches us how to work together as a unit, we work so closely it has made us family. Joining this program is one of the best decisions I have made thus far in planning my future.

Nathanel McCray

My name is Nathanel Mccary, I was born and raised in Rome, GA, and I am 20 years old. My mother is an immigrant from Cote d'Ivoire and served in the Iraq war as an engineman in the U.S Navy. My father served in the Vietnam war as an infantryman in the U.S Army. I was never pushed as a child by my parents to join the military, but I always wanted to, and I am sure it has something to do with the long line of veterans in my family. CLPP gave me a chance to go to college and the opportunity to eventually commission in the army. Without the prep program I would not have an opportunity to do something like this, so I am thankful for the CLPP.

How CLPP Works

The Program uses the "Scholar, Athlete, Leader" model to set its goals. This model matches the current admissions standards for new Corps of Cadets students and those transferring internally. It makes sure students meet these important areas.

Successfully completing these requirements will enable you to transfer from the UNG Gainesville campus into the Corps of Cadets on the UNG Dahlonega campus. Academic Excellence

Learn more about New Freshmen Requirements

Cadet Candidates will complete 30 earned credit hours and a minimum GPA of 2.0; or 24-29 credit hours earned on coursework at the 1000-level or higher and a minimum GPA of 2.5; or UNG associate degree earned and 2.0 GPA. Refer to the UNG Degree Policy for more information.

If applicable, completion of any required learning support courses (Math and/or English) as deemed needed by the Learning Support staff. Of note, earned credit hours do not include support courses, as they do not count towards academic hours.

The student will be notified of required learning support courses upon the day after their acceptance into UNG.

If applicable, Cadet Candidates will complete any required high school curriculum deficiencies.

Cadet Candidates will complete two Military Science Courses while participating in CLPP, to include:

MILS1000 – Intro to Army Critical Thinking (Fall Semester)

MILS1100 – Intro into Profession of Arms (Spring)

The Military Science courses will be held in classroom 1217 in the Nesbitt Building

Cadet Candidates with Mandatory Advising holds MUST meet with an academic advisor at least once a semester. Cadet Candidates are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor more frequently to review their academic progress and internal transfer/degree level change requirements. Of note, some majors do not have mandatory advising holds; however, most majors do.

Cadet Candidates must participate in periodic grade check-ins during the fall and spring semester. These will be held with members of the department of Academic Coaching.

The Cadet Candidate MUST meet with a member of the Cadet Leadership Academy quarterly to monitor their progression throughout CLPP. During the spring semester, they will discuss plans for the degree level and campus change to prepare for the transfer to the Dahlonega campus.

Upon meeting all academic requirements, Anita Prince, the Corps of Cadets Academic Coordinator (706-864-1420) will build the advance schedule for cadet candidates transitioning as cadets onto the Dahlonega campus. Of note, some majors do not have a professional advisor (music, foreign languages, theater, IESA, and visual arts); however, most majors do.

Athlete
Holistic Health and Fitness

The Cadet Candidate is strongly encouraged to participate in daily individual physical fitness activity during the academic week to prepare for the demands of cadet physical training after transitioning into the Corps of Cadets on the Dahlonega campus. For this purpose, Cadet Candidates will be given a PT plan for individual execution, with a check-in with Cadet Leadership Academy cadre at least once per academic week.

The Cadet Candidate is strongly encouraged to join intramural sports, clubs, and other student organizations to promote a healthy, balanced lifestyle while participating in CLPP.

Leader
First Year of a Curated 48-month Experience

The Cadet Candidate is strongly encouraged to participate in community involvement and interaction both on and off the UNG Gainesville campus.

Various opportunities are available throughout the campus from Student Government Association, the Center of Student Engagement & Leadership, etc.

The Cadet Candidate will attend character development instruction led by the Cadet Leadership Academy.

The Cadet Candidate will participate in a mentorship program led by Echo Company from the Dahlonega campus.

The Cadet Candidate will participate in staff/faculty mentorship.

Additionally, each Cadet Candidate will be required to sign a participation policy letter with the Cadet Leadership Academy to abide by the required uniform, attendance, physical fitness, and overall professionalism standards of the Cadet Leadership Academy, as future Cadets in our Corps.

Important Program Information

Academic Requirements
Cadet Candidates will follow these advising requirements:

UNG helps by pre-scheduling your first semester. A professional advisor will contact you to explain your schedule and help you. You can also meet them during orientation.

If you have less than 45 credit hours, it is mandatory that you meet with your advisor every semester. In the Cadet Leadership Preparatory Program, you must meet with your advisor in both the Fall and Spring semesters. When you are cleared to transition to the Dahlonega campus, your advisor will help you plan and submit your request to change your degree level and campus.

After changing campuses, you will be assigned a new advisor in Dahlonega. If you have fewer than 45 credit hours, you'll be assigned a professional advisor and will need at least one more semester of required advising. Submit your campus change form by the priority deadline to register for the right classes.

You're encouraged to meet with your advisor as often as needed to get the right information for your academic journey at UNG.

Learning Support
CLPP Cadet Candidates may need to complete Learning Support courses while at the Gainesville campus. Here’s what they need to do:

Cadet Candidates must register for Learning Support courses every semester, as needed.

They will take one pair of Learning Support courses (either Math or English) each semester.

Their first pair of courses will be scheduled during Advanced Scheduling. Advisors will help choose the best courses based on their major and placement.

Cadet candidates can submit their SAT or ACT results or take a placement exam to avoid being placed in learning support. Questions about exemptions should be directed to learning.support@ung.edu.

Any additional Learning Support courses will be discussed during mandatory advising, and students will register for these during open registration.

Internal Transfer & Degree Level Change
Cadet Candidates must successfully meet the requirements for internal transfer and degree level change in order to be eligible to transfer to the Dahlonega campus and join the Corps of Cadets. Requirements include:

Completion of minimum GPA and credit hour requirements. Students must meet one of the three following GPA and credit hour criteria:

24-29 completed GPA credit hours and 2.5 GPA

30+ completed GPA credit hours and 2.0 GPA

Completed UNG associate’s degree and 2.0 GPA

Completed GPA credit hours include all college-level coursework, including dual enrollment, that is factored into a student’s GPA. Completed GPA credit hours do not include Learning Support courses (e.g. MATH 0999) or credit earned through exam (e.g. AP, IB, or CLEP credit).

Completed GPA credit hours may be pending at the time of internal transfer and degree level change application. For example, a student may submit their internal transfer application during their spring semester, provided that upon completion of their in-progress courses, they will meet the minimum credit hour requirement.

GPA requirements must be met at the time of application for internal transfer and degree level change. For example, a student may submit their internal transfer application during the spring semester, but in-progress course grades will not be factored into their GPA requirement.

Completion of all Learning Support requirements (English and/or math), if applicable

While grades earned in a credit-bearing Learning Support pairing course (e.g. MATH 1111) will be factored into GPA, grades earned in the corresponding support course (e.g. MATH 0999) will not be included in a student’s GPA. Credit hours from the support course (e.g. MATH 0999) will also not be factored into completed GPA credit hours.

Completion of all pending Required High School Curriculum (RHSC) requirements, if applicable

Students may have outstanding Required High School Curriculum requirements in English, math, science, social science, or foreign language. These RHSC deficiencies can be satisfied through taking a course at UNG.

UNG Success Hub
Cadet Candidates are encouraged to use the UNG Success Hub for Tutoring Services, Academic Success Coaching, and Supplemental Instruction on the Gainesville campus. You can access it online or in person.

Tutors (both professional and peer) are available online to help you with subjects like accounting, chemistry, computer science, math, physics, and writing. They can answer questions and guide you to succeed academically.

Online tutoring is by appointment, and both in-person and online sessions are scheduled the same way. You can book drop-in sessions for subjects or appointments for writing and others.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) provides structured, regularly scheduled weekly study sessions, led by a peer facilitator. These sessions are available at no cost to all students enrolled in courses supported by SI.

Before the start of spring or fall semester, the department of Student Orientation and Success will host a New Student Orientation and Meet-and-Greet for Cadet Leadership Preparatory Participants. At orientation, you’ll meet your advisor, faculty members, and learn how to use key resources like D2L, the learning platform for your classes. They will also help you understand your role as a student and Cadet Candidate, and how to get involved on campus!

Housing
The Deryn, conveniently located a half mile from the UNG Gainesville campus is a co-living environment, meaning it is rented by room instead of a full unit, with the opportunity to live with Cadet Candidates across a three-room unit. This living option is recommended as it will help with the transition to living in a cadet residence hall on the Dahlonega campus.

Co-Living Unfurnished: $599 + $133 for utilities

Co-Living Furnished: $699 + $133 for utilities

Full Unit Unfurnished: $1,675 + $237 for utilities

Full Unit Furnished: $1,925 + $237 for utilities

They also offer renter's insurance for an additional $15. If you would like to get your own through a third-party, The Deryn can accept that as long as it is listed as an interested party.

UNG provides a shuttle to campus from The Deryn, as well as a walking path.

Note: the UNG shuttle runs every 15 minutes from 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Mon - Thurs) and 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Fridays.

Be sure you apply by July 1 to help with roommate arrangements and other matters. The application and administrative fees are $99, of which you will be reimbursed half.
