New Student Checklist
Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of North Georgia!
As a new student, you're bound to have tons of questions about starting classes at the University of North Georgia (UNG) – you know you're accepted, but what's next? There are a number of tasks you must complete to finish the enrollment process and begin your journey as a UNG Nighthawk. Please read through each item carefully and explore the links provided for more information.
1. Immediate Steps After Acceptance
Activate your UNG Account
You will use the same username and password to login to a number of important university systems. Use the activate your UNG account link to find your username and enroll in the password management system.
Once complete, then you will be able to access and explore:
Submit your Confirmation of Acceptance Form
All students should complete a Confirmation of Acceptance; however the method could be different depending on your circumstances. See the Confirmation of Acceptance page in Undergraduate Admissions for what action you need to take. You must submit your confirmation by our deadlines, or if accepted after the confirmation deadline, within two weeks of acceptance.
Those required to attend orientation must complete the Confirmation of Acceptance process prior to receiving access to the Orientation Reservation system.
Those not required to attend orientation must complete the Confirmation of Acceptance process prior to receiving access to the Online Pre-Orientation modules.
Apply for Financial Aid
If you’d like assistance in paying your tuition and fees, the Financial Aid office may be able to help. Financial aid encompasses both federal and state aid programs, including federal loans, scholarships (for academics, athletics, leadership, etc.), and VA benefits. We encourage you to explore all your options and carefully determine the right amount of aid for your circumstances.
After submitting your financial aid application, you should be very pro-active in monitoring your eligibility and award status via your BannerWeb account.
Special Notes for Transfer Students:
- If you have already submitted your FAFSA for the academic year you will be attending UNG, you will need to go to fafsa.gov to make a correction to your FAFSA by adding UNG's school code: 001585
- Loans at your prior school must be canceled before you can request any remaining loan funds from UNG.
- All final transcripts from prior schools must be submitted to UNG before your financial aid eligibility is determined.
The Financial Aid Timeline is a helpful tool for all students.
Important Note: Although you can apply for most forms of aid at any time during the academic year, it’s best to submit your application and all required supporting documents before the priority deadlines to ensure your aid can be processed and awarded prior to the start of term.
- Fall Priority Deadline – February 14
- Spring Priority Deadline – November 1
- Summer Priority Deadline – April 1
Schedule your Orientation Date
Submit your Housing Application (residential students in Dahlonega only)
If you’ve been accepted as a residential student on the Dahlonega Campus, you must submit a housing application. Once your Confirmation of Acceptance form and fee have been processed, the Office of Residence Life will email additional instructions via UNG Student Email. This email also signifies that you now have access to the Housing portal/application process. You are encouraged to start the process as soon as possible and need to watch your UNG emails closely once you have started for further instructions.
Please note that even if you decide not to attend UNG, you are still responsible for the $150 housing application fee if you have already applied for housing. If you decide not to attend after choosing a bed and submitting the housing contract, you must submit a completed Housing Cancellation Request to the Office of Residence Life. Financial penalties may apply.

2. Actions to Complete Prior to Orientation/Class Registration
Submit a Photo for your UNG ID Card
Visit the UNG ID Card Photo Submission page to see photo guidelines and the photo submission portal. Students required to attend orientation must upload a photo at least 3 business days prior to your orientation session.
Complete eCore Introduction Quiz
All incoming students should complete the eCore Introduction Quiz prior to attending orientation or registering for classes whether or not they plan to take an online course at this time. The quiz takes less than 10 minutes to complete.
eCore courses are designed, developed, taught and supported by faculty and staff from the University System of Georgia (USG) and are a great option for completing core curriculum requirements.
PLEASE NOTE: The eCore academic calendar (start/stop dates) is different from the normal UNG academic calendar.
Visit the UNG eCore web page for more information.
Order your Virtual Parking Permit
Set up your Disability Accommodations (as needed)
As you may already know, obtaining special accommodations in college is different than it is in high school. If you previously had an IEP, 504 plan, or other documentation that would reflect the need for accommodations, please contact the Office of Student Disability Services to discuss your specific needs and the process to receive accommodations at UNG. Please be advised that the intake process takes time, so it’s important to schedule an appointment before the start of term to ensure your accommodations are in place when classes begin. Students must actively request accommodations, even when they transfer from another college, through the Student Disability Services office in order to receive them.
Once registered, you will need to notify your professor(s) in order to receive special accommodations.
Register for Campus Mailbox (Dahlonega - Residential Only)
Complete Survey (Fall Freshmen Only)
3. Actions to Complete After Orientation/Prior to First Day of Class
Review Invoice, Pay Tuition and Fee Bill, and Sign Up for Payment Plan
Please visit the Payment Deadlines & Information web page for approximate information on when to pay fees. Students attending an orientation will have a different fee payment deadline which will be after their scheduled orientation session. You will learn more about this at orientation. We do encourage you to go ahead and set up a payment plan after you are registered for classes, but prior to orientation if needed.
Read about viewing and paying your student invoice.
Submit Your Immunization Form
All new students (freshman, transfers, and others) attending regularly scheduled classes or receiving resident credit are required to submit a Certificate of Immunization to Student Health Services. Please find more information and download the form from the Dean of Students website. Students will have a registration hold placed on their account preventing registration for a second semester until this documentation is submitted.
Check your Admissions Holds
Check your application status to ensure that the Office of Admissions has everything they need to finalize your admittance and begin courses at UNG. A complete list of Admissions paperwork can be found on the Check Your Application Status webpage. Scroll to the bottom to view holds that may prevent you from registering for classes in future terms.
*If you have been classified as an out-of-state resident for tuition classification purposes but believe this designation is incorrect, please review the residency policy and complete the Application for In State Tuition.
Schedule Adjustments
- After attending live virtual orientation, students who do not already have a time ticket will receive a time ticket to make course schedule adjustments if needed and pending course availability.
- Students have until January 15 at Noon to make schedule adjustments.
- Please review the Core Curriculum and your Plan of Study before attempting any schedule adjustments.
- Find information on How To Register using the Nighthawk Registration system. Students will be able to search for in-person, hybrid, and online courses within the Nighthawk Registration system.
- You can reach out to your Academic Advisor for assistance if you are unable to adjust your schedule on your own.
- The Academic Advisor is listed on your Tranguid in Banner. You can also go to adviseme.ung.edu and search for an appointment time with your advisor.
- More information can be found on the Advising, Registration & You Next Semester webpage.

You will see a series of items with clickable links. As you complete each item, please mark the checkbox. Keep going until your completion bar reads 100%.
Complete Part One of both SAPU and AlcoholEdu
There has been a delay on access to these modules. No holds will be placed on student accounts for completion of these modules. Once these modules become available, emails with login instructions will be sent to all students who need to complete the trainings. We appreciate your patience.
