Change your mind about your major? You may make that change at new student orientation!
Academic focus areas group majors that are related and share similar coursework. Focus areas allow you to begin taking classes in the academic area you are interested in, while giving you time to decide on your major during your first year of studies.
For example, if you can't decide if you want to declare history or criminal justice as a major, then you would choose the social sciences focus area.
If you like science, but aren't sure if you want to get your degree in chemistry or biology, then you would choose the STEM focus area.
Choosing a focus area gives you the opportunity to potentially save time and money by avoiding unnecessary credits. It also gives you a little extra time to figure out the major that will help you achieve your academic goals.
